A Centipede in the House

In the parlor is an oculus. In the library there is now a centipede. (Light #5 is not yet installed.)
The idea is that the ceiling is open to the night sky. Soon, there will be stars.
The main ceiling will have the same ‘cracked ice’ pattern as the parlor. And I am pondering an enhancement to the teal border.
The night sky comprises four separate layers:
- Base pale teal.
- Black gloss cut 50% with clear polyurethane and applied with a flat wool pad so the teal still shows through.
- Very dark blue cut 50% with clear polyurethane and applied with a flat sponge so the underlying colors still shows through.
- Bright white cut 50% with clear polyurethane and applied with a flat sponge so the underlying colors still shows through.
All this is more apparent in person than in the above image. The soon-to-be stars will make a huge difference.

Wowee. Love celestial ceilings! Very cool.
Wow! I love it. Are you choosing a particular night sky (with actual stars) that has meaning to you? Or are you creating your own constellations?
Awesome!
Celestial ceiling!
Can’t wait to see the finished masterpiece!
That’s really cool! I was contemplating the ceiling in one of the attic rooms of my apartment. If I owned it someday, it would definitely be painted as a celestial ceiling. I find it so cool and interesting.
Oooh, a celestial sky is awesome. Barb had a great idea painting an actual constellation on the ceiling. How about a constellation of your Zodiac sign. Just a thought. Can’t wait to see the finished room.
Perfect idea for a library ceiling! I can’t wait to see it with the stars.
