A Faux Beginning

Today, I did Step #1 in preparing the stairhall niche arch to receive a new faux bois (false wood) finish. The arch is plaster, painted to match the adjacent actual oak. The right side is in good shape; the left side was badly cracked and heavily corroded.

On Wednesday, my artist friend Susi will arrive to begin the process of recreating the lost finish. Neither one of us knows what the end result will look like, but we are confident it will look a LOT better than it has for many decades.

Stay tuned!

And, on Tuesday, something big is gonna happen.

Stay tuned!

What Sandra says! I’m excited to see the faux bois finish made whole again. But I can’t wait to find out what the Tuesday Big Deal(TM) is.

Can’t wait to see the technique/artistry involved and of course, the final product! I just salvaged a faux bois linen cabinet from a neighbor’s house slated for demo, and I’m so impressed at the work that goes into that type of painting.

Thanks for recreating the faux bois finish Susi, I’m sure it will be stunning. Looking forward to the end result.
And something BIG? I can’t wait.

My life is a shitshow right now. College kind of sucks, and it’s hard. It makes me so happy that stuff is going right in a town in Kansas, in a cool old mansion. Rock on Ross, I’m waiting for Tuesday’s reveal with excitement.
