A Forced Vacation

Well, it was bound to happen.

My computer crashed. Luckily, I had a external backup so I should be ok. But, I am now without a computer. A new hard drive is on order and maybe I will have the computer back on Friday.

Maybe.

A new super-duper computer is on order but it will not arrive until mid-May.

I am typing this on my iPad, which is MUCH more work than on my computer. So…I may not post again until I get the old computer back.

This is all quite unsettling. I am so attached to my computer that I feel wholly destabilized. Even when washing the dishes I cannot shake the feeling of being unbalanced.

Humm…I wonder if the cats can install a new hard drive?

Sorry about the computer Ross… So smart to have a backup.

I must say I’m curious what color you’re going to get. 😂

I feel your pain, my dear. I have a back up laptop for just such a reason. It’s slow, but it does the job in an emergency. In today’s world where last year’s computer is an antique this year, it really does pay to maintain some previous tech to fall back on when such things happen.

I so get that. It used to be if my computer or my car were not working I was really off, but now I so rarely drive. The laptop has become my instrument.

Getting a new one is a lot of work. Takes a while to customize it…

I am considering selling my backup Mac Mini and getting a second laptop…expensive though.

When I had my big office and staff, I had only 2 rules- backup, backup, backup, and spellcheck, spellcheck, spellcheck.

Glad you have a backup Ross. And since I am on my iPad (yes way harder to type) l’ll bet there is a spelling error here lol.

Enjoy being analog for a bit.

Hope it all resolves quickly and easily.

I don’t know if the cats could install a hard drive- but I bet they could rub their scent all over the old one LOL!

Best wishes on the computer- mine conked out two years ago! External Hard Drives are a lifesaver, and I think SSD (solid state) drives are less likely to fail in the long run if you can invest in one for your next computer (fewer moving parts!) They may be worth the investment but have less storage capacity. Hope this helps!

I’m so glad it was your computer that was ailing and not you! I was getting a little worried because you are such a regular poster.

Bummer! I’m sure the cats could do it, but whether they would grace you with their skills is another matter. Their time is so precious! Hang in there. :/

I hope your computer problems are solved quickly. You might try the dictation feature of your iPad to make things easier on you as you wait.

What a shame about your computer, it’s always something. I’ll miss your almost daily postings. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Take care.

Whew! Ross, your absence had me worried that your health problems had taken a turn for the worse, so I’m glad it’s just a computer problem. Looking forward to a return to normal when you get your machine repaired.
