A Health Update

A seeming miracle has happened.

During the last 48-hours or so I feel…better. Much better. The best I have felt in like 18 months.

For about half of 2022 I have been incredibly lethargic. I was napping three times a day. Doing anything took titanic effort. I recall climbing up a ladder a while back to begin the repair of the library ceiling and being overwhelmed.

These past few days? I do not even notice climbing the ladder. It is like I am no longer a 100-year-old man but a sprightly 40-year-old!

And my right calf, which has ached and ached from blood clots for months, suddenly feels normal. Well…squee!!!!!!!

While all this is good news, I still have blood clots and, as such, am in a highly dangerous condition. There are also some unresolved issues concerning other aspects of my body but, so far, nothing alarming.

All this testing has been enabled due to my turning 65 this year and qualifying for Medicare, the first time I have ever had health insurance.  Without this I would have had no choice but to ignore my symptoms. With death as an option.

Democrats created Medicare in 1965. I owe my life to Democrats.

I turned 65 this year as well. It’s frustrating I don’t have the energy I did at 40. Take care of yourself, my friend! We want to see you around for a long, long time! My prayers go out to you!

So glad you feel good! But don’t overdo it! Keeping you in my prayers 🥰

    🎉 Right on, Ross!
Focus on healthy nutrition, keep well rested, engage in stress relieving activity (hello interior decor!) & your body will respond with gratitude. 💜

I’m so glad you’re feeling better, but as others have said, still don’t overdo it! My husband also turned 65 this year and started on Medicare… and is also extremely frustrated by not having the energy and ability to do everything pain-free as he did at 35. He still pushes and there is no slowing him down. I can’t believe you’ve gotten to this stage of your life without having had health insurance before. My sister had to do that for 2 years after she left a full-time nursing position to take care of her disabled husband. It was a nail biter 2 years for me, worrying that she didn’t have insurance for that time. The ACA was enacted and became effective before she turned 65 so she was able to buy health insurance even before Medicare age. We were so very thankful.

That really is good news. You can continue (carefully) to do the work on the Cross House that you find so fulfilling – and we all love to read about. I know the feeling as we obsess over here on our olde house restoration. As a friend said when they visited and had the obligatory tour, “at least you know what you’re doing for the rest of your life :D!”, which is very true.

For a Canadian, your reality of having ready access to preventative medical testing only if insured or 65+ is forever bewildering and counter intuitive to effective and efficient health care!

Awesome. You’re turning the corner. Keep up the good health work@

Dear Ross — I hope that you’re checking ib with the medicos regularily on a six month basis. Laet them know of your concerns. You’re probably already doing this but if not, try it out. The medicos will fix or try to fix most physical ( and sometimes mental ) problems.
    Good Luck,
    George ( Galvestonian )

So glad! Though I don’t believe in God, I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and well wishes. Maybe even prayers. I’m glad for now though you’re feeling really good! I recently had covid and I can empathize with the lethargic feeling, having my energy back after that felt so liberating.

That’s great Ross. Keep on doing what you’re doing, it’s working. It’s such a relief to have Medicare and to be able to go to a doctor when you need to. Also nice to have the energy to be able to do the things you want to do. I’m looking forward to seeing the library completed.

Glad you’re feeling better. Last week I finally got a break from about 6 weeks of sciatica and I swear I all of a sudden felt 10 years younger. So I know how you feel. Sometimes you don’t realize how awful you felt until you suddenly feel better.

SO happy for you Ross. You have gone through a very disheartening period in your life. I know you are not out of the woods yet, but I sure hope that your health just keeps getting better and better. We will be moving to Kansas soon for our retirement. We know of all the pitfalls of Kansas, tornadoes, the flatness and lack of things to do, but we hear that the people are amazingly nice and that trumps (hate that word) anything negative! Look forward to being neighbors, sort of, and will hopefully be scheduling a tour of the Cross House soon. Best wishes to you and your crew!
