A Lighted Niche!

Y’all remember a few years ago when I laboriously restored the stairhall niche?

But…the niche had no electricity. So, while I installed a fabulous ceiling fixture (a Bo discovery), it was never lighted.

Until now.

For the first time in my eight years of owning the house, I can see the FABULOUS upper parts of the oak trim.

The stained-glass, actual.

Ross soooooooo excited! I can see! I can see!

That is a unique light fixture, I just love the woodwork at the Cross House. The whole niche is a little jewel box. Nice job!

“Jewel box” is a perfect description.

Perfect light to highlight a beautiful feature…the house’s progress is really beginning to snowball!

Was there ever a light here in the past? Regardless, I imagine this will do wonders to light up the stained glass for the benefit of the passing traffic outside.

Ross that is absolutely mesmerizing! The restored arch is stunning! Most beautiful of all the restored stained glass!! What a difference to the dark niche

That is one of the best little nooks in the house! That woodwork! Wow! Love the light fixture.

What an amazing job you have done, Ross! That niche deserves to have the light shining upon it.

Woah. That curvy light is spectacular in that space.

Wow! Love the light – really shows off the windows and woodwork! Awesome!

Yes, I remember the long, loving restoration of the niche. And the righting of the windows after they were restored. So glad you finally brought electricity for the light. I can’t believe it hasn’t been done after all this time or wasn’t to begin with. Maybe bringing in the gas was a problem since much of the house is dual fuel.

It looks now like it should have been all along. Great progress.

Hi Ross, I tried to send you a message about some lighting-related things that you would be interested in through your contact page. I’m interested in your response.

What a wonderful fixture, and it looks like it was made just for that location. I am imagining the great hall at night, finished and furnished, with the main light fixtures dimmed, allowing this fixture to really draw attention to this beautiful niche. If Mr. and Mrs. Cross and Mr. Squires are somewhere watching your restoration, I would bet that they are all three applauding your decision to put this fixture in this spot; Mrs. Cross may even remark to her husband and her architect “Why didn’t you boys think of that??” 🙂
Also, is the restoration of the faux wood arch trim finished? Your picture doesn’t quite show the entire area, but it looks like it may be complete; I don’t think I have seen a post on it since your friend started working on it, but I may have missed it…

    Beautiful.

The graceful curves of the light echo the curves of the oak trims, stained glass and archway. Excellent combination.

So here’s a question…Would you ever consider installing 1 or 2 actual gaslights somewhere in the house? Just to experience the original ambience. I know, I know. Huge fire hazard. But asking.
