When you have some time, you may enjoy watching this video (below).

It’s from Sunday, when Pete Buttigieg officially launched his 2020 presidential campaign.

I found his speech, which he wrote himself (wow), to be deeply inspiring. I also like his youth, experience, and obvious intelligence. The man radiates intelligence, which is something Democrats like in a president: Carter, Clinton, and Obama.

Two months ago few people had heard of Pete. Today, he has risen in the polls higher than any candidate running on the D ticket. He raised $6M in his first quarter, and another $1M in the few hours after his speech. Some of that came from me!

Pete is also gay, and some people say: “Oh! America isn’t ready for a gay president!”

I reply: “In 2007/8, a lot of people thought America wasn’t ready for a Black president.” Indeed, Black voters, generally, refused to support Obama throughout 2007 because they felt America was so not ready.

Then came the primaries. And Obama did well. And Black voters hopped on board.

A lot can, and will, happen between today and the first primaries in 2020. But I feel deeply inspired by a man named Pete. Watching on Sunday gave me a sense of hope I haven’t felt in a long time.

I was thinking you must be following Pete! Where is your political post about Mayor Pete?! Lol. I sent you an email a while back to tell you he lives in an Old House! Just another great thing on a very long list of great things about him.

I saw a Facebook post about how he engaged a shy girl at a school art show. I was so impressed with his compassion and humor in that encounter. Not to mention his intelligence, field of knowledge, and goals! I am so on board. And remember, we have had a gay president before, but it was before the media was involved in bedroom behavior.

I have had the pleasure of watching Mayor Pete for all of his public life. While I don’t live in South Bend I am only a stones throw away. Pete is everything this country needs right now… he is thoughtful in what he says and does and he has brought SB new hope and development. He is a very impressive young man in every way! His sexual orientation doesn’t enter in to discussions in the area, his husband Chasten is a media darling right now. So YES, I support Pete and I hope the rest of America agrees! Someone that speaks intelligently is just an added benefit!
