A Rain Day

Yesterday, Friday, I had planned to install lap-siding under the north kitchen window, adjacent to the entry.

It was raining though. Never-ending rain.

So, I switched to inside the garage finishing what Eric and I did on Wednesday. When I was almost done the same Eric appeared as if by magic and made me an offer I could not refuse.

“I used to do roofing. Would you like to hire me for the roofing work where the chimney was removed?”

This is part of the Violation Notice.

With alacrity I responded: “YES! YES!” (Note: alacrity is one of my favorite words but it is not easily inserted into a sentence. Thus, you can imagine my thrill here.)

By hiring Eric for this work my favorite four words of all time came into play: Less work for Ross.

Squee!

Eric explained that he offered help due to his concern about me not being quite right, health-wise (I have been having unexplained bouts of lightheadedness) and thus perhaps falling off the roof. I could not refute this concern. He also explained…and I was quite touched by this…that he really enjoyed working with me for two days and, well, hoped for more. Awww! I replied that I had felt the same way!

One of the great pleasures these past ten years has been working with fabulous people, from Justin Scott Brock, everybody from Modern Air, my fabulous and brilliant friend Patricia, Handsome Justin (the floor guy), and the awesome Kenny who has donated so much. While I have known Eric and his wife, Lesley, since 2014, this week is the first time Eric and I worked together. And this is because Justin is out of the country for now.

After we reviewed the work to be done we spent an hour in the driveway, under a gentle drizzle of rain, animatedly exchanging stories of our lives and laughing laughing laughing.

And this, this, is what makes restoring an old house so nourishing.

What a happy Christmas for you both. May it continue through the new year and for years to come.

If Eric likes doing roofing and working with you, he may be a future resource for you when it comes time to remove those dormers and repair the roof for each of them and maybe even help in putting on that porch you have plans for.

See, even in the rain there was a baby step or two. Sometimes it’s not work. It’s networking.

Meanwhile, lightheadedness? May I assume you are eating regularly and properly? If so, might be time for another visit to the doctor, taking advantage of that Medicare.

      Hi, Mary!

So far the doctors don’t understand the lightheadedness.

It’s not sugar levels. It’s not blood pressure. I just had an MRI of my head, and another one of my neck, to look for clogged blood vessels or blood clots. Nothing there. I’ve been drinking a lot of water; no change. Today has been particularly weird with my head feeling just…off. Yesterday I felt great!

Did they check for an ear infection? Could be inner ear or something to do with that balance part inside.

About 20 years ago I had a weird type of flu that hit my inner ear. Made me lightheaded and dizzy. I was fine laying down but the minute i stood up I was lightheaded and dizzy. My Mother thought I was a slacker adn faking it until she got it. No other symptoms really. Went away in about 10 days.

It makes me so happy that you have help for the roof! To me, it sounds terrifying to think of being on a roof with lightheadedness. You have wonderful friends.

Are you exposed to any gas appliances, say a stove?
