A Sad Day

Today, I arrived at the Cross House and parked. Before leaving the car, I checked for a news update on my iPhone, as I normally do.

And then…I cried.

The news seemed impossible. She has been Queen my entire 65 years. While my life has been tumultuous, she was always, you know, there, rock steady.

I have long admired her. As a child, she had no expectation of becoming Queen. However, though a series of shocking and unexpected events, a whole new life was thrust upon her. At 26-years-old.

Her stong sense of duty compelled her to make the best of the situation and, by universal accounts, she never wavered in this duty for the following 70-years.

And she loved doggies.

And now Charles is King.

I have long admired him. Few people know how he has dedicated his surreal life into helping countless people, and of heightening awareness of sustainable agriculture and sustainable building practices, and improving the quality of architectural design. He also created a wondrous garden at his home, Highgrove, and has always had the garden open to the public.

And now Camilla is the Queen Consort.

I have long admired her. Few people have ever bothered to learn much about her and she seems mostly known as: “Home-wrecker!” But the marriage of Charles and Diana was doomed from Day 1, and this had nothing to do with Camilla.

It is reported that Elizabeth eventually grew deeply fond of Camilla.

It is to her credit that Camilla is one of the very people in the life of Charles who has treated him as a person rather than A Royal.

The two seem happy together, and this makes me happy. Both seem like very strong people and this will prove vital in their dramatically different new lives.

So, while I am sad today, I am excited about the future.

What lovely words. As Brits we are feeling this loss, that sense of permanence in these turbulent times lost to us. Charles 111 sounding strange. A beautiful address to the nation this evening.
Loving the progress as you baby step but keep on going. You are an inspiration

Yes. I was working in the house and I came upstairs and saw that she had passed. It was a great feeling of loss.

I had been watching the news with apprehension…

I agree with all you say.

She was a rock. Perhaps the only stability we have known in many of our lives.

    Your sentiment is beautifully expressed.

I also think Charles is a decent man with interests in helping the world. And yes, it is very good that he has a loving partner.

The world is sad and a little off kilter today.

    Hugs to you dear Ross.

I’m very sad too. it’s weird thinking of a world without her in it. Last of an era. 🙁

She was Britain’s Queen for all of my 69 years. Over time, she became the world’s royal grandmother in many ways. A lovely, nice lady with such a sense of humor (she really liked to photobomb the unsuspecting).

A friend said it best. “The 20th century has ended with her death.” Yep.

    RIP, Queen Elizabeth.
