A Spike

This blog has long averaged about 2500 views a day. But this past week? Golly.

At first I thought: Huh?

Then I realized. Oh, y’all are staying at home and spending a lot of time looking at old house porn!

Hi Ross! Do you know if reading via email gives you a “hit” on your page or does it only count if read from the blog itself? I’m an avid reader – just via email updates! 🙂

Hello Ross,. I was watching “old house porn” on YouTube and caught a video done on your lovely home. What followed was me reading all about your venture on this blog. I’ll thank you again for letting me trail along with you on your adventure. Stay healthy!!

Why, I … I …have no idea what “old house porn” even means … **quickly shoves stack of French Cottages magazine, further under bed** … I appreciate fine architecture! 😷
    💜 Keep well, Ross.🌻

Ross. Holy cow that’s a lot of views. I’m lucky if I break 300. But of coarse the cross house and you are amazing. Keep up your amazing work. Soon you will be able to move into the cross house and it will be worth it.

Have you thought about having some advertisements (paid of course) a la “YouTube,” on your site? May help with the Kitty Fence Fund. How’s that fund been doing? Haven’t seen an update in some time.

This spike seems like the perfect time for Ross to tastefully promote the ever-present (yet largely ignored) big green “GoFundMe” link!

Looking from all over the world!! New Zealand is in full lock down (movements for groceries and medication only), as of our mid night, last night :-). Plenty of time for old house porn!

I have binge watched all your blogs over the past 3 days! Looking forward to future updates. I love all your plans for the house, have you thought of a tea room? Love your political posts, my thoughts exactly, although you are much more literate and expressive than I could ever be.

Ross, I have been reading and enjoying your blog for several months now. Take credit where credit is due—you are singlehandedly saving the sanity of over 7,500 fellow human beings right now!

    Thank you.

You know,Ross, many of the hits on your site are, of course, to see your work progress on the house…but 100% of viewers “tune in” because you are such a funny, witty, and interesting writer!!! You keep us coming back for more. And woe be the day when every project is wrapped up!!! What would I be doing in my free time???

    Hi Ross

I have been enjoying (secretly like many other cossetted hp affectionados) the house Porn of the Cross house for a year but have never posted. It is part of making me feel the day or week is o/k and what a lovely focus. Never thought I would appreciate shingles as much. My personal bias is the inside but am so happy to see the grand old dame getting a new top coat. I work in healthcare (social worker) and to have a focus on something other than Covid 19 is certainly helping me through the day. Keep well and shingle on (only for a tiny time more). a virtual hug to you and all your friends Iris from Perth Western Australia

A big virtual hug back to you, Iris in Australia!

Perhaps a foray in to Instagram territory would help with spreading the word about the Cross House as well as offering potential free samples or advertising with associated companies. I do love your blog and have been following you for a number of years but unlike 5yrs plus ago I find that I am using apps like Instagram on a daily basis to keep up with my renovation interests. So many of the popular accounts I follow receive discounts for items used in their renovations or freebies. It would bring your story to a wider audience whilst giving you a few perks and I know lots of people would be interested.I will still visit none the less.Keep on, keeping on.

Hi, Ross. I discovered you via Youtube. Love you, your blog, your house and ALL old houses. My grandparents owned a home built in 1910 a little larger than the Cross House that they made into seven apartments. They kept ALL the bits in case anyone ever wanted to restore her back to a single family home. It has Lincrusta friezes in the breakfast and dining rooms, a central vacuum system, dumb waiter and speaking tubes. The main family bathroom has a sitz bath, which would be cool for the Cross House to have, too!

Though you would never agree with me politically, I breathlessly await your next posts.

I anchor each day by looking in on you Ross. I also love your readers. I have been reading this blog for several years now and I always read each comment. Stay safe, hug the kitties.

I’m checking out your progress because I’m scrapbooking the photos I took when my group toured in June of 2017! I’m still so impressed with your work on this beauty. You’re a true treasure of Emporia.

Stumbles across you on YouTube a couple of weeks ago and found your site. I’ve been trying to play catch-up on you story. Though I haven’t ready every post I’ve read most of them. I love transformations especially of old houses…and I love kitties, a great combination. I’m all caught up now!
