A Tale of Four Facades. Redux.

The other day, Clinton mentioned a post I did in August, 2015, showing the four facades of the Cross House. This gave me the idea to revisit the four facades! This was the west facade in 2015.

The west facade, 2017. I subtly enhanced the color scheme this year. And am THRILLED with the results! Also, all the secondary roofs have been redone, all the windows restored, and some of the porch railings re-installed.

The north facade, 2015. EEK!

The north facade, 2017. About 98% completed. Whew! The “eye” still needs to be enhanced.

The east facade, 2015.

The east facade, 2017. A great deal of work has been done to the one-story extension, and the NE corner.

The south facade, 2015. The 2017 view is exactly the same. However, the Cross House was awarded a second Heritage Trust grant to restore the south facade! This work will commence in 2018.

    Looking really great.

I’m especially excited to see the Porte Cochere looking spiffy again!

Well – on the south facade: not EXACTLY the same, the porch roof and tower roof(s) were re-done.

What a good steward you are. The people of Kansas can rest assured that they are getting great returns for their money. I can’t wait to see what you do with the south facade.

How incredibly wonderful, a grant to continue such a phenomenal endeavor. Congratulations.

Just a random note, I found it very interesting on the rear facade, in the “before” picture the grey of the one-story extension’s roof makes the main roof look grey, whereas in the “after” picture, the new brown roof brings out the brown and makes the whole main roof look brown. Which one is the real color??

I noticed that as well. I think it is just a trick of the mind. I know that the majority of the roof is the same old roofing, which I think is grey(with staining and the like) So there’s two different colours, the brown and the grey.

I think the south facade is my favourite. Please more photos!

Agreed. The south facade has just as many beautiful details as the north. It will be stunning when restored. I love the pediment over the port cochere. I hope Ross paints that like the west side pediment.

It looks like the east facade has the fewest architectural details. Like none. Is that because this side of the house was primarily used by the staff, and back then you put your money where important visitors would see it? Whatever the reason, I hope it makes this side easier to restore.
