A Thankless Faux
I was up on scaffolding when some movement caught my attention.
I looked around, and down. Oh! It was Lindy! Her father and grandfather owned the Cross House from 1929 to 1960.
Lindy yelled up: “Can I mow your lawn?”
Huh? Huh?
“Why would you want to mow my lawn?”
“I’m going crazy in lockdown and need to do something!”
OK. That made sense. But…”Well, I appreciate that but, no, I cannot accept such an offer!”
“Please! PLEASE!”
Hum, it was an enticing offer.
When she finished, I yelled down, asking if I could do a blog post about this.
“No!”
“Oh, come on! Your grandkids will love it”
She pondered this. “Geez. OK. But don’t thank me!”
So…with this in mind, I present the true story:
I was up on scaffolding when some movement caught my attention.
I looked around, and down. Oh! It was Lindy! Her father and grandfather owned the Cross House from 1929 to 1960.
Lindy yelled up: “Can I mow your lawn?”
Huh? Huh?
“Why would you want to mow my lawn?”
“I’m going crazy in lockdown and need to something!”
OK. That made sense. But…”Well, I appreciate that but, no, I cannot accept such an offer!”
“Damn you! Damn you! You are SO selfish!”
“Lindy! That’s a terrible thing to say!”
She then called me a series of quite shocking names.
“Lindy!”
She glared at me from ground level.
I scooted back a bit on the scaffolding. She looked fierce.
“Just tell me where the damn mower is!”
Nervously, I pointed.
And, soon, I heard the mower roar.
Later, she finished, and stormed off glaring at me.
I thought: “I am SO not going to thank her.”
It seems that the lockdown is really getting to people. Lindy is, normally, so nice.

Hahaha her grandfather and father trained her to mow the Cross House’s lawn. Way to go, Lindy.
Hmmm…guess someone still feels ties to this house?!? Lol.
The REAL story is SOOO much funnier.
And, Ross, I seem to remember reading somewhere that you felt drawn to this house from the very beginning. There is a certain power to good design. And, even more so, now that the original color scheme is being restored. There’s more harmony. The lens is being refocused! So great!
After all, Its drawn all of us, from all these other places, into its allure!!
Another good neighbor. That’s a big help, one less thing for you to do and it got Lindy out of the house.
Ross, you crack me up! And I love the name Lindy because that is my mom’s nickname for me too! Way to go, Lindy! Lindy’s are known for being helpers. Really!
How lucky you are to live in a town, where your neighbors would offer or in your case demand to tend your lawn. Out here, you are hard pressed to get a hello out of people.
Belly laughing!!!! I’ll see you today if it isn’t raining.
That girl was raised right! It goes both ways giving and receiving………a blessing.
And, Ross, you are soooooooo much fun!
Thank YOU, Ross, for giving poor Lindy something to do!
I was thrilled to do so! I loathe mowing the lawn!
