a TITANIC sigh of relief

Guess what I did yesterday?

I am both thrilled and enormously relieved about it.

Finally, after ten months, I was able to make the last payment of the huge huge huge bill to restore and reconfigure the radiator system in the Cross House.

Besides being able to remove a major item off the To Do List (which reaches to China), I can resume spending money on things other than the radiator bill.

Whoee!

So, I can order the porch spindles, porch lattice, get the huge curved glass window resurrected (it was broken in 2014), and order the missing encaustic tiles for the bathrooms and vestibules. All these were put on hold once the radiator invoice arrived.

I also look forward to eating again. Like everything else, this, too, has been unaffordable for ten months. Luckily, I could afford to lose the weight. And this was about all I could afford these past ten months.

And I might even, maybe, splurge on going to a movie this weekend. And buying…popcorn!

I hope the Cross House radiators appreciate my slavish devotion to them.

I’ll take any leftover cat food you may have… unless you’ve come to enjoy the taste!

It’s true – the Cross House radiators totally appreciate your slavish devotion to them.

In fact, the whole house knows that you are saving and restoring her, and that because of you, she is once again going to sparkle like a jewel.

I know that my old house loves me. I feel her gratefulness for all the restoration projects we have undertaken and completed. She used to whisper to me…”Don’t you think that I would look awesome if you removed those asphalt shingles on my four dormers so that I could show off my cedar fish-scales instead?”. Etc. Etc. Etc. Now she whispers to me less often as the list has been completed. Now she just smiles, and wraps me in comfort.

I love what Sandra said! It’s so true. My old house thanked me for the yard and but is sighing at my housekeeping skills. Radiator heat is the best and those old radiators are works of art. Glad you were able to endure! Next time let us know–we can send food baskets or gift cards. Seriously.

Hooray !! What an amazing accomplishment. It is the unseen, yet necessary bills which are the hardest to do.Looking forward to the next phase. We have just gone through the same things here with furnace ( radiators here too )and electrical. On a cold day, put your boots on the radiator. Later, put them on , so nicely warm !

A sincere congrats Ross ! ! Unless you’ve lived it you can’t truly get how hard it gets. But your houses “other” occupants thank you and will find a small way to show their approval. Just be open to it. Again, congrats ! !

Kudos to you on this accomplishment! Huge load off, huh?

Now I have to say how much I enjoyed the comments on this post-there’s a lot of old house love out there and some of these comments were quite touching. It’s really kind of cool to think that in all that wood, brick, stone, glass, plaster etc. lies a good ole’ soul that’s giving back to the one who gives.

Carole..Are you possibly talking about the former owners? Have been wondering about them..

    • Ross on September 19, 2016 at 8:14 pm

      I think she meant ghosts!

That is what I think also..that is what I meant by former owners…The cross family…speaking of…any peep from any of them?

        • Ross on September 19, 2016 at 10:37 pm

Ah! No, they have all been very quiet!

          • Lisa Marie Phillips on September 19, 2016 at 10:41 pm

Maybe they are waiting for you to move in…I am sure they are very happy what you have done with the house!!
