I have never been so disgusted as I am today. I cannot believe these justices have come up with an opinion that is so fundamentally different from what I understood to be American Democracy….that no person is exempt from any law. How insulting that they have issued this decision the same week as we celebrate the 4th of July…when we declared our right to free ourselves from the tyrany of the british crown. The supreme court has, in essence, re-established a king, someone who is above the law. Of all people, the president should be the First Citizen who abides by all American laws, not the only one exempt from them. Well, I guess Joe Biden is now free to make his own call to Seal Team 6. The Bald Eagle hangs its head in shame.

I’m in a state of shock.
I’ve spent decades studying one question: How the fuck did Nazi Germany happen?
And now…to my horror…I’m watching the same thing happen to my country.
I too have always wondered how the ordinary Germans, who I assume outnumbered the Nazis, were so thoroughly swept into the 3rd Reich. It is terrifying, having read so much about the evolution of Nazism in 1930s Germany, to see so many similarities currently taking place in the US. With today’s ruling, the checks and balances of the three branches of government we all were taught in high school civics have effectively been thrown out the window. I fear for this country if Trump wins, and I fear even more if he loses. Since he does not seem to understand the chief glory of the American form of democracy is the peaceful transfer of power, he would have no qualms about unleashing another civil war. May God forgive him and this political Supreme Court for I can not.
Brendan, early Hitler, like Trump, was never supported by the majority of people. In the early 1930s, Hitler had about 1/3 supporting him. Ditto for Trump, today.
And this terrifies me.
He wasn’t supported during the war either. Not by a majority. Plenty of every day Germans had no idea about the death camps or what was going on there. It was only after the war ended and the full evil of what happened was exposed that many discovered what was happening.
Complacency. Uninformed.
Look at how many U.S. Citizens DON’T VOTE. How many don’t follow elections or listen to the news or do their own research on candidates. That is how we got where we are. They register Republican because their parents did and then just vote the straight Republican ticket without any knowledge about the actual candidates.
Both of my parents are Republicans but my Dad was unregistered for a long time and then finally registered as an independent.
He voted for Hillary in 2016 but for Trump in 2020. My Mother has been a Republican since Eisenhower and wrote in a candidate in 2016 and I’m not sure what she did in 2020 but whe was proud that she didn’t vote for Trump either time.
As for me, I am going to get out my “Don’t blame me, I voted for Hillary” shirt because that is where this all started. If it wasn’t for Trump we would not have had Kavanaughty or Any Phony Barrister. We might even have avoided Gorsucks if Hillary was fully supported and way ahead i in the polls instead of all of the complaining and third party stuff. Not to mention being sabotaged by James Comey. If Hillary had won we would have a totally different Supreme Court and we wouldn’t be where we are.
Biden defeating Trump is only the first step. We need majorities in both the House and Senate. Then our Absolute King Biden needs to expand the SCOTUS to thirteen and put four young liberal justices on the court. We cannot count on Alito or Thomas retiring under a Biden second term. If anything they will hang on because of it. If either leaves for any reason, then there is another opening for a young liberal judge. With luck we can change 7-6 to 9-5.
One thing is for sure. Justice John Roberts will go down in history as the worst Supreme Court Justice in the history of what once was the United States of America. His legacy is now set. And he was worried about how Trump’s impeachment would reflect on him. Bwa ha ha ha ha.
I completely agree. I am in shock. My husband says Biden should now arrest and execute Trump as he, as president, is now above the law. But he won’t.
Except the Supreme Court gets to decide if it’s legal or not and given the current court, anything Trump does gets immunity and anything Biden does does not. They have rigged the system.
The decision today was horrible for the country but Biden’s speech was the strongest ever and what people need to do. It isn’t about abortion or the price of gas or the border or NATO. It is all about character and temperament. In that, Biden WON the debate and Trump lost. Trump will continue to lose. People are tired. They are exhausted with his rhetoric and they don’t want to hear the snake story, the electrocution versus the shark or Hannibal Lector any more. The are burned out.
And know what Trump is going to start doing now? He is going to brag how he is responsible for the SCOTUS decision and tell what he’s going to do. He’s going to lock up Hillary and hang Mike Pence. He won’t be able to stop himself. He is going to brag about everything he is going to do, everyone he is going to arrest, share his “hit list” and continue to whine about all his hurty feelings and how he is going to get revenge. He is going to arrest Michael Cohen and Judges Marchan, Erdogan, Chutkan, etc and put Aileen Cannon on the Supreme Court. He can’t help himself, he is going to spill it all. He can’t help but gloat. Between now and November he is going to double down and spew all of this over and over and it is going to horrify people. The more his polling numbers go down the more he is going to double down. He is going to drive voters to vote for Biden. The Biden Campaign and Democrats are going to use the SCOTUS decision against Trump and use the FEAR handbook the Republicans have used so successfully for decades. They are going to make people afraid of Trump as president under the new SCOTUS immunity ruling. At least that is what they should do, using all of Trump’s video as he’s certainly provided enough of it.
The D.C. trial may be delayed but all of the evidence is going to be presented in the hearings Chutkan is going have to have. That means the public will be party to all of the evidence and they can reach their own conclusions. Just like his guilt is exposed in the documents case in Florida. The people don’t care about the nit picky legal statutes, what is or is not allowed. It’s clear he not only stole U.S. classified documents but he also refused to turn them over and he conspired to hide them from the search in collusion with his lawyer and two of his employees. Aileen Cannon is only making that trial worse for Trump’s re-election because it exposes his guilt. We don’t need a trial and a jury to come back with a guilty verdict. We just need to see the evidence and we’re going to see and hear that with Chutkan’s required hearing. We can make our own conclusions when we hear the preponderance of evidence, whether it is allowed or now. When it’s out of the bag, we will make our own conclusions and it will show Trump is unfit to be president under the new powers the SCOTUS has now given the office.
It’s starting.
Trump is already saying he wants a military tribunal on Liz Cheney televised.
He won’t stop there.

I’m afraid of what is happening in my country too ( i’m french). Years ago, we were laughting about your country with Trump as president, now i’m asking what is happening in a lot of country…
