    I think the wind is shifting and some are seeing the light. I hope for the sake of this country!

    • Ross on November 8, 2017 at 7:13 pm

      I hope so, too, Gabi!

  2. Chad on November 8, 2017 at 8:25 am

    But… the results from yesterday leave a lot of room for optimism

    • Chad on November 8, 2017 at 9:02 am

      Like just stare at these.

      Plus the Democratic socialist in Virginia’s House of Delegates, the civil rights attorney who defended BLM and sued the police 76 times is now Philly’s DA, and if Delaware County, PA matters for anything beyond being my ancestral home, it’s known to be a bellwether for America and the Delco Dems had unprecedented gains there.

      • Ross on November 8, 2017 at 10:17 am

        Thanks, Chad.

        Yes, last night was a thrilling adventure!

    MAGA = Making America Global Anathema.

    • Ross on November 8, 2017 at 7:15 pm

      There is even factual evidence to support that, Glenn!

      Our global standing has plummeted in 2017 in every country save two: Israel (up 7 points) and…Russia (up 42 points).

      Just a few other examples:
      Spain: down 68 points.
      Sweden: -83
      Germany: -75
      France: -70
      Britain: -57

      And on and on. In 35 countries our standing has plummeted.

      You can read more here:
      A new survey by the Pew Research Centre of 40,447 people in 37 countries shows that trust in Mr Trump pales in comparison with Barack Obama’s final ratings. Whereas 64% of those surveyed had confidence in Mr Obama to do the right thing, just 22% are similarly optimistic about his successor, whom they described as “arrogant” (75%), “intolerant” (65%) and “dangerous” (62%).

      I utterly fail to see how this makes America safer or better.

  4. Doug on November 8, 2017 at 10:00 am

    There is no appropriate response to this. I still just shake my head…… Unbelievable!!!

    • Ross on November 8, 2017 at 10:18 am

      I do too, Doug.

      That people would willingly vote for a man who bragged about sexually abusing women. I will never understand this.

  5. Mike on November 8, 2017 at 10:04 am

    What scares me is how many otherwise sensible people seem to be OK with this. As a father and grandfather, it makes me sick to think that such a twisted pervert is now the leader of this country. I know that many past presidents have behaved badly and immorally, but at least they had enough sense to know that what they were doing was wrong. Does that make me a hypocrite? This guy represents the worst of our habits and practices, and his lack of morals is only part of the threat he poses. I honestly believe that he is intentionally trying to provoke N Korea into firing the first shot, even though it could kill thousands and thousands of innocent people.

    • Ross on November 8, 2017 at 10:21 am

      Hi Mike!

      Yes, past presidents have acted badly but voters only learned of this AFTER. Like with Kennedy. His activities were essentiality unknown to the public.

      But, in 2016, voters were given a HUGE BILLBOARD: Trump Likes Sexually Abusing Women!

      And they didn’t care.

  6. Susan on November 8, 2017 at 10:07 am

    Hi Ross, when I recently discovered your blog and consumed it like a book I appreciated the fact that you made space for politics since 2016 was such a pivotal time for many who were never seriously involved but were inspired by Bernie, and the hope and optimism he infused across the globe. I’m letting you know up front who I supported. Although, in the end I had to vote Jill Stein for her antiwar platform after Bernie was cheated in the rigged DNC system, and was never ever for the Trumpster. I wonder if your post was a backlash to the already common knowledge of the DNC rigging and your beautifully decorated queen’s exposure of her lack of innocence?

    • Ross on November 8, 2017 at 10:33 am

      Hi Susan.

      By voting for Stein you created a Trump Presidency. Trump won by a hair in WI, PA, and MI. Had third-party voters supported Hillary in just these states, she would be in the White House today. So, thanks, Susan.

      Also, Jill lied repeatedly about Hillary. So, I guess liars are OK with you?

      You also just lied. There is zero evidence that Bernie lost because of a rigged primary, and Donna Brazile has also stated as such this week.

      Also, you wondered why I did this post. Well, and I thought this was obvious: because it’s the year anniversary of the election.

    • Jonathan W on November 8, 2017 at 12:39 pm

      I supported and still support many of Bernie’s policies, he has stuck to his beliefs for his entire life. I’m okay with Jill Stein but worry whether she would’ve had the strength had it come to it. Bernie would’ve won more states had there not been a “coin toss” in many of the states where the caucuses were held, I he was very close and the DNC did push him to the side. In the end, I supported Hillary. I still supported Bernie, but as he was not chosen, voting for him or Jill would’ve been pointless in my eyes. As Ross said, had the 3rd party voters voted for Hillary she most certainly would’ve won(she did by popular vote, but the electoral college had already decided by the time the 3million votes were counted ONE MONTH LATER) I could not attend on voting day, as I was in another state. I regret not being there, but my state of course voted for trump, my single vote would’ve done little when it was nearly 30/60.

      I am very young compared to many on this blog, turning a mere 20 next month, but I understand how the world works. The good must sometimes sacrifice their beliefs so that the better of two must win.

      I recently watched a video of an African American man who befriended members of the kkk and didn’t let their hate get to him. Eventually, through his superior knowledge, he conquered the hatred and racism of many of them(not all), and has changed a community as a whole for the better. But one thing he said really struck me to the core. I’m paraphrasing here, but he said “I didn’t vote for him, but I believe trump is the best thing that has happened to this country. It was built upon white supremacy and slavery. (He brought the analogy that if you broke a bone, sometimes the doctor most break it again, to reset it right) America must re break the bone, to fix itself. trump is doing just that.” “America is a space age country, with stone age minds.” We must restart, so that we can have space age minds, with space age technology.

      After trump is gone, we will heal that bone, and hopefully we can start anew.

        It is nice to meet you, Jonathan!

        And thank you for articulate observations and sense of hope.

        Your comment though about the infamous “coin toss” is an urban myth. While coin tosses did occur (as they have done for decades) there is no credible evidence that all somehow magically went Hillary’s way. I get exhausted by the constant repeating of disproved stories, and worry when so few people are willing to fact-check stories from credible, nonpartisan sources.

        Here is what Snopes has to say about the Iowa “coin toss” story. Please make sure to read the full story.

        This quibble aside, I am glad to hear your views. Thank you.

        • Jonathan W on November 9, 2017 at 1:53 am

          Of course. Always a pleasure.

          I always try to see the silver lining or the hope, and help others see it as well, but I also find it very important to stare at that darkness, and stay aware of it.

          The caucuses were from a short time ago, but a time which I did not do much research, I also never thought to check credibility later on as it has become so insignificant compared to what has happened since.

          I have schooled both equals and superiors at times, and I appreciate when others kindly do the same, in the right way.

    Bravo! Let me just say as a New Jersey resident I’m thrilled with the outcome.

  8. PK on November 8, 2017 at 5:26 pm

    I agree with Mike’s comment.

    It outrageous me that this person is in the White House.

    It depresses me even more that some people are still supportive of him.

    How do they support somebody who is:
    * totally amoral
    * not very intelligent
    * a blatant racist
    * a sexual predator
    * an extreme egomaniac

    How could such person possibly make America better?

    • Ross on November 8, 2017 at 6:59 pm

      I am just as baffled, PK.

      I would add:

      * pathological narcissist
      * pathological liar
      * xenophobe.
      * misogynist
      * failed businessmen kept afloat by Russian money for about twenty years now.

      And I worked for Trump for two years in the 1980s, and can attest to his negative qualities from personal experience. EVERY person who worked for the Trump Organization was terrified of him; his rages and capriciousness. Even his wife at that time. And his sons.

  9. Jammin' Jan on November 8, 2017 at 10:43 pm

    It seemed to me that so many just heard what Trump said and believed every word. He’s going to make America Great Again, but he left out HOW. It’s like a nation of senseless lemmings. He claims he’s so intelligent, except he’s without the proper knowledge of language, he’s not even thought of that word, only uses smart. It’s apparent he lacks in all social graces, has poor knowledge of history and is generally just an unappealing man. I’m astounded that he got as many votes as he did. If only the Electoral College had been disbanded (or whatever the correct term is).

    I’m afraid of what trouble he’ll cause with other unstable world leaders. It seems there are so many. Thanks for giving us a chance to air our views.

    My comment is late, but I just wanted to congratulate the winners of this past Tuesday’s election. As a politically active member of the NoVa constituency, I’ve never been so proud of my state. Extra props to Danica Roem, one of the sweetest victories of all. For the first time in a year, the strangling toxic vibe that has surrounded me has eased up a bit.

    Now that I have some time, I would like to volunteer for Emiliy’s List.

    • Ross on November 11, 2017 at 8:55 pm

      Thank you, Traci. Thank you.

    I applaud you Ross for always cogently & thoughtfully disproving the false news items & scurrilous & totally erroneous info by province ding data—evidenced based data & not some Trumped up barrage of falsehoods. The latest Trump bashing former Presidents who besides their flaws (who among us is without sin go ahead cast the first stone) he bashes the Bushes! Thanks so much for provide big first hand knowledge in order to fully illustrate the knowledge base & further refute the falsehoods & inaccuracies.
