I watched the debate tonight.

If I was a low-information voter (as are most voters), this would be my take:

Biden was terrible.

Trump would get my vote. He seemed powerful and commanding.

But I’m a highly informed voter, and this was MY take:

Biden was terrible.

Trump lied constantly. He also didn’t answer most questions. Like 1/6…he just danced around the most important question of the night.

I’m 67-years-old and Biden has been the best president in my lifetime. He has got my vote in November.

A great president is not measured by how well they debate. It is what they do that matters, and their team. And, IMO, Biden has surrounded himself with a crack team

Trump? He surrounded himself with felons. And Trump is, of course, a felon. To repeat, Trump is a felon.

Team Biden has zero felons on board.

Again, Trump is, too, a pathological liar. He kept stating how great everything was under him , and how Biden has destroyed everything. Oh?

.

.

.

Trump kept blaming Biden for inflation:

And the USA has the lowest inflation of all G7 countries.

Trump claimed that crime is out of control under Biden. Another lie:

.

.

Trump claimed that the debt under Biden is the highest ever. Another lie (but note how the debt surges under Republicans):

I keep saying two things:

Democrats HELP

Republicans HARM:

.

.

And what did Trump accomplish during his four years? Save, you know, giving huge tax cuts to incredibly wealthy people?

Trump hammered Biden about the border. But who is really to blame?

.

In short, yea, Biden did poorly tonight. But remember:

.

.

Lastly, do you want to vote for a person who thinks America is shit?

Or for person who thinks America is great?

I hear ya, and we need to be sure to get this out to those who may be falling for the certain hit pieces that the Winger media will have tomorrow!

DmR, that’s why I posted this.

Yes! Biden can just concentrate on being our leader if re-elected. He won’t have to campaign anymore. He’ll be fine with the best people to help him. We know exactly what Trump would be like. Project 2025 tells us. I will be voting for Joe Biden!

Yes, it was terrible. And yes, I will vote for Biden if the alternative is Trump.

But I don’t like it. I certainly do not like being forced into it by Democratic sentimentality and short sightedness.

Biden demonstrated that he is the one that could make America great again, or at least heal as much of the damage that Trump did in four years. He has accomplished plenty. It should have been enough.

But he also promised one term and he should have stuck to that. The Democrats could have been spending all of that time setting up a stronger candidate for this year in November because everyone knew Trump was going to run again.

I really wanted it to be Pete Buttegieg because Tammy Duckworth won’t run for President. (Yet, I hope) I really want her to be the first female president.

But if I can’t have Duckworth I want Pete. Pete has the chops to take on all of the criticism, counter it and hand his attackers their asses. That’s what I want my president to do. Pete could have been set up to be the Democratic nominee very easily. And he would have easily won against Trump in November. He would have wiped the floor with Trump tonight.

    I am extremely disappointed.

Biden did a great job these last four years but he should have stuck with his promise and stepped aside.

It didn’t matter that he had the accomplishments and the facts and the fire to call Trump out. Too many missteps. This wasn’t a debate on the radio, this was visual. And he didn’t look as vigorous as Trump, the broken record liar. I’m sure if anyone was playing a drinking game tonight they would have passed out by now. “Disaster”, “unfair”, “Great”, “China”, “immigrants”, plus every lie and projection. Sadly no sharks, snakes or Hannibal Lector. But that is because of the format. It made Trump look more presidential by putting a muzzle in him. Sadly it couldn’t force him to answer the questions.

Tonight made me really fear that Trump could win in November. Biden running for a second term makes that a real possibility. If he had just stepped aside a year ago to allow a different candidate to be chosen I wouldn’t be as afraid as I am now. I blame the DNC leadership for this. They’re not listening to the people who have said they want younger candidates. They didn’t listen in 2016 or 2020 or now.

I certainly do not want November to come and go and have to post “Told you so.”

Mary, I adore adore adore Pete, and can’t wait to call him Mr. President in January, 2029.

But, there was no way that he have challenged Biden now, No way.

And, Biden made no “promise” that he would not run again. He simply made an offhand comment.

Also, the DNC doesn’t run candidates. Rather, candidates decide to run.

I agree completely. Thank you, Ross, for pulling together so many facts. But I am sick and so afraid that Trump will win. Biden should have stuck to his original statement that he wouldn’t run for a second term. We could have had a good, younger, viable candidate who could beat T-rumpus easily. I love Pete, and he’s only one of the possible candidates. I am scared.

Thank you for the excellent summary, Ross. I will share it as widely as possible. My heart aches this morning, as do those of all my like-minded friends. Last night felt like a devastating blow to all of us. We couldn’t even discuss it. The one argument Trump had, which actually had eve a remote bit of reason, “too old” was affirmed true by Biden’s performance.
I will continue to vote for Democrats at every level, as I believe most reasonable people will. However, I am deeply disappointed. Biden should have stepped aside to support a strong candidate who better reflects a modern United States. Period. But here we are, facing what feels like a perfect storm. Feels like we lost the election last night.

What’s more important? Biden’s competent performance as president for the past four years or a forgettable performance a poorly conceived and poorly moderated debate with a malignant narcissist gaslighter lasting 90 minutes? As Rachel Maddow so aptly pointed out, the incumbent president debate curse still held for Biden as it has for many decades for previous presidential debates. I remember well Obama’s lackluster first debate of 2012 and George W. Bush’s subpar performance in 2004. Both went on to win their elections.

Thank you Ross for putting together this good information and charts. I’m sure it took quite a bit of time, but well worth it. Biden did not look good, but I would vote for him any day of the week. He has done so many good things for the U.S. He has done a fantastic job. What really irks me is your list of the bills that were passed that Republicans voted against and then the Repub’s turn around and brag about what they did for their constituents.

One thing that you don’t hear much about was an interview on CNN with a top oil professional (for lack of a better word) I couldn’t find the interview to post here. In 2022, Biden sold 189 billion barrels of oil from the US oil reserve at $95.00 a barrel. That satisfied the demand for oil and brought the price of down. He turned around and bought back the 189 billion barrels of oil for I believe it was $67.00 a barrel and replaced our oil reserve and made billions of dollars for the US in the process. Incredible! Biden broke OPEC.

    GO JOE!

    Hey Ross,
A friend and I want to do whatever it takes to get a Democrat in the White House this election. (All elections actually !)

May I share this link or take some of the info from here and share that?

    Many thanks Ross!
