And So…It Continues.

In October, Cody waved hello. The ceiling does not look too bad. This is deceiving. Note the wall to the right; this is the south wall.

The south wall. And the damaged ceiling, thus, revealed. Here, Scott and Justin install the first piece of sheetrock. Note how I did not pull off the original circa-1921 remaining plaster. Down the road somebody could restore the original ceiling.

Squee! This is the first time since 2014 that the hole in the SE corner has been fixed. Ross VERY excited.

As previously mentioned, I will do a grid on the ceiling via 2×6 boards. The boards will cover ALL the joints between the sheetrock, reducing mudding/taping by 95%. Note how the 2×6 boards are 12-inches away from the perimeter walls?

This was a Cody suggestion, recreating the effect in the dining room which Cody did, where the frieze continues onto the ceiling. And also recreating…

The same effect in the parlor of the Cross House. The frieze continues onto the ceiling by 4-inches.

Back to the drawing. The grid could not all be squares as the room is not square. But the outer corners ARE square and each will sport…

Sheetrock is VASTLY easier to install using magical equipment. Magical RED equipment! Thanks Justin (L) and Scott!
The brilliance of all this is that the mudding/taping will be reduced by 95%. The pre-painted 1×6 boards will cover over the seams in the sheetrock.
The brilliance of all this is that sanding and the attendant HORRIBLE dust will be reduced by 99%.
As I post this, I am a day away from turning 65. And whatever reduces my workload make me VERY happy.

Love the plans and the lights. That ceiling is going to be stunning when it is finished. It is a beautiful design whether it is hiding seams or not.
For me? I would at least put tape over the seams even though they will be covered as a means of sealing from drafts. But that is me being extra finicky. I actually put two vapor barriers in my bathroom when I was redoing the tile around the tub. Insulation between the studs, vapor barrier, greenboard, vapor barrier, cement board, then tile. I took photos at each step of the process in case I ever needed to know what I did behind all that. I do that for all of these sort of projects because I can’t rely on remembering what is hidden. Should I ever sell the house I would probably print out everything and create some sort of scrapbook or journal for the new owners so they would know that was going on in case of future repairs of any kind. Installing the dishwasher was a nightmare compared to the bathroom.
The carriage house is becoming elegant. Happy Birthday Ross!
