The Cross House

Before. After.

2014.
2014. I found this image today…and gasped! Note how all the windows are unrestored, the diamond-paned upper sashes in the dormer are missing, as are the center porch double columns. Note also a dreaded ladder! And no downspouts! EEK!

2016.
2016. New roofing, too! And soon there will be tower finials (note the plural) and porch railings and porch lattice!

  1. There are companies that specialize in cleaning roof shingles. I wonder how much better the asbestos shingles would look, cleaned?! Would tie the whole look together I’m thinking. Once you have the lattice and railings in place, the weathered appearing asbestos shingles will be ever more pronounced…

AS if you didn’t already have 9,432 items left!

    • The previous owner had the cementitious diamond roofing tiles pressure-washed ten years ago. They were almost white.

I am thrilled that they have now grown darker again, and look forward to their ever darkening!

I left the tiles on the main roof because they will last till the end of time. They are also historic in their own right, having been installed in the late 1920s!
