Lovely finish! I’m trying to understand where the butler pantry opens; dining room into the hall?
Beautiful work!
Sandra!
One passes through the butler’s pantry to go into the kitchen.
There is a second pantry off the kitchen.
How on earth could you have ever considered taking that out Ross!? It’s going to be fantastic
Hi, Mick!
Obviously, I am an occasional ding-dong.
aren’t we all! 😉 Glad you saw the light, can’t wait to see it finished in all it’s glory
Are you going to have to have a replacement made for the door you said was of a different wood? The one you’ve cleaned up is definitely oak, so you’ll have to match it or the odd man out will look really strange. I think your speculation that the replaced door was damaged, by thieves possibly, is probably true. It’s interesting that there was a “safe” cupboard though. I wonder if there are any other little hidden areas?
Hi, Jenine!
The refinished door pictured above is pine. It will perfectly match all the other doors and drawers save the mysterious “silver safe” doors.
I’m not great at identifying wood types… Looks really good anyway. What are the “silver safe” doors made of, and can you figgle with them to match the rest?
I’m so glad you reversed your re-muddling of the butler’s pantry. The refinished door is beautiful, the stripped down wood looked almost new. Wish I had a butler’s pantry, can’t wait to see the final result.
I give up. Tell us what’s better. Just bringing it back is better but I’m sure you mean something else!
It looks fantastic. I’m so glad you decided to change it back. From the beginning, I was secretly hoping you would change your mind, but I never thought you would!
It looks like you will actually have quite a bit of storage. Since you don’t have much wall space in the kitchen, maybe you won’t need a lot of cabinet space beyond that island you’re planning?
Anyway, it looks great!
Yes, Kerri, even with but an island in the kitchen, the two pantries will offer a ton of storage.
As things were in 1894!
OMG! It looks beautiful!
Wow, that looks fantastic! I can’t believe someone slapped that awful paint on to begin with.
It’s so hard to imagine that someone slapped that paint on, took a step back and said, “Wow! That looks so much better!” Beautiful door, Ross!
It looks so fresh and new! BTW, I noticed in the last picture that there is a dropped ceiling?
What’s above it?
Hi, Thomas!
There are tiles glued to the original ceiling.
They will be departing!
