The Cross House was built in 1894. It is located at 526 Union Street, in Emporia, Kansas. I purchased the house in March 2014.

Preserving the Past

A decade ago I did a post about wallpaper discoveries. It was all very exciting and urge you to read this post. In short, this is what the upper stairhall was papered in. The miraculous Bo ascertained the maker (!!!!) and found a pristine sample:     But, did the paper continue down to the…

Carriage House Inchin’

In 2013, when I first toured the Carriage House with the idea of buying the Cross Properties, I instantly realized what a great bathroom the Turret Room would make. So, you can imagine my excitement at seeing an old dream come true!

Resuming The South Hall

I did a lot of work on the hall in 2022 and had planned to finish the work but then got slapped with a Completion Notice for the Carriage House in early 2023 and that consumed my life for the rest of the year. Now, as I stare in abject wonder at the recreate…

Putting Even More Bits Back.

I have done a number of posts about Putting the Bits Back. By bits , I mean parts of the Cross House lost over time. All old house lose bits over time. And one of my favorite things is reversing such sins to historical integrity. Since 2014, I have reinstated: lost porch columns and lost…
