CH. And So It Begins
Last week.
Today.
Since receiving a VIOLATION NOTICE last week I have been scrambling to figure out what to do, what not to do, what materials I need, and what materials I can afford.
Today, considering the sky-high cost of materials, I carefully removed the ancient lap-siding so it can be reused to infill other areas. This section of wall will have all new siding, and the small window which was to the right will be installed in this section. This corner will later be the front porch and with a roof over. Eventually.

Oh man! So sorry about the violation notice. Good luck and godspeed dear Ross. You will make it work. You always do.
You just need to show good faith. They’ve seen your progress with the main house and they know you mostly do all of the work yourself and money is tight. They just want to see that something is being done.
Boo to the neighbor that lacked patience. At the very least they could have walked over and talked to you about “Do you know when you’ll be working on this house? It’s sorta an eyesore.” That’s more neighborly than an anonymous complaint to the city.
Mary, the city has been consistently gracious to me. I’m not worried about that suddenly changing.
Also, I’ve no way to know who complained. Yes, it might have been a neighbor. If so, the carriage house HAS looked really bad since 2014. So, a complaint at this point is not unreasonable.
However, the complaint could have come from anybody. Perhaps just a person passing though town. Or perhaps somebody I pissed off during the epic fight to save the Plumb House.
I honestly don’t think it was neighbor. To be honest, I think it was someone was being spiteful.
