Now I just have the small area under the right window. I am thinking about using lap-siding and painting it in the historic colors, because the window and door are.

it’s really getting there Ross! I like how you are meeting the requirements (vinyl) but still giving hints of the historic restoration to come in time (historic paint). I never realized the potential in that corner before, looks good!
Was that door to nowhere originally a third window? Apologies if you’ve mentioned this in previous posts, I cannot recall.
