Yesterday. Lap-siding under window.
Today. Lap-siding finished! Note scaffolding on roof gone! There is also a lot of clutter which will soon be…squee!…gone. Stay tuned to this channel!
The roof scaffolding was installed to repair a hole in the roof (part of the Violation Notice) after I removed a chimney in 2021.

I will also mention that if the city reads the blog to stay abreast of the progress, they likely don’t bother with the comments. However, if they do:
I hope this ends your formal attention but does not end interest in the work this man has done for the property and the community. While no one should be above the law or have special dispensation, it should be obvious that the current caretaker is not only going to great lengths to beautify the property, but doing so in a way that reflects in it’s historic roots and will last much longer that a quick splash of paint for a quick flip.
Judging from his blogs, this was a blow to Ross’ plans, but he changed course and did the best he could within the limits of time and money to meet the requirements. This is a person who would be a valuable ally in preserving old Emporia and planning for the future.
I completely agree with Jay. The city of Emporia should be proud and delighted with what Ross has done for this very visible corner in Emporia. Although I understand not many have the umph, resources and expertise that Ross does, I hope this provides motivation for others in Emporia to consider an old house which may only need some cosmetic fixes and clean-up to save another historic home regardless of it’s lack of the grandness of the Cross House.
