CH: Day 18

Thursday.

Today.

PAINT! Squee!!!!!!!!

I am quite please how the siding turned out. All the visible siding is from 1894 and from the carriage house or the big house. After much ado making it all nice, it now looks nice. Ross happy!

I could not finish painting the window because sun was hitting it. So, I need another blue tarp to keep the sun off. Very soon I can move the scaffolding deck up another level to restore the profound mess above the window. I have long length of siding for this.

What will be next? The north wall. When this is done people driving by will see the whole corner dramatically transformed. I am uncertain though what to do with the triple window. It is not part of the Violation Notice, and is covered with metal siding. I might leave it alone for now and only return to it after the Violation Notice is withdrawn. Just restoring the window sashes will drag on for months. And the leaded glass panel need to be restored.

The paint looks great Ross, all that prep work is worth it. After painting the north wall, I’m sure the city will be satisfied with your work, and the promise of work to come on the remainder of the carriage house.

Leave it. Get some paint up. Doesn’t have to be the final anything, just cover the weathered wood and metal trim. Of course, if it can be the finished color without the window messing things up too much and you’ve got the paint, well, go for it and that saves having to do it twice. Restoration can wait as long as it is weatherproof.

Get done whatever is needed to withdraw that notice. Then you are free to choose how to proceed.

I have two triple windows like that in my house, although without the leaded glass panels. My center windows are stationary and do not open but the sides do and their sash cords have been replaced and they operate very nicely. I do need to reputty some of them.

Congratulations! It looks great. Proof that baby steps are productive.
