CH: Day 56

Yesterday.

Today. It looks like only 6 more lengths of siding were installed. But looks are often deceiving.

The window had just been tacked in place. I removed it, installed flashing to each side (the right flashing had to be careful inserted behind the extant siding), put the window frame back, leveled it, and screwed it in place till the end of time.

I had to pry out, just a bit, the vertical trim to the left so I could slip in flashing.

Tarpaper over sheathing.

Install long length of siding under window. This had to first be cut to length, then scrapped of old paint (a process I abhor), sanded (ditto), installed, then trimmed to fit the sill of the window frame.

Above this, to the left, I could then install 5 lengths of short siding. But each piece had to cut to length, then scrapped of old paint (a process I abhor), sanded (ditto), and then nailed in place after being leveled.

It’s all about the Baby Steps™, dahlink.

Last night there was a friggin’ monsoon. Squee!!!!!!!! Today, I nervously approached the Carriage House expecting the blue tarp to have been torn off and flown to another state.

I was surprised and pleased that it was in situ, only having its vertical supports knocked down. These are easy to put back in place.

I see the progress. I see it. And I understand why it doesn’t look like so much today but it is, it is. Going to go faster now. Then soon, PAINT.

When you paint, why don’t you paint that board over the window black so it gives the appearance of a window?

I made a lot of progress. The chopped remains of my dead ornamental plum tree are now piled in the middle of the yard awaiting further dismemberment. I checked the ground and the roots are rotten and it is soft enough to dig (due to periodic soaking.) I’ll give it a soak tomorrow and commence the hole on Friday. Hoping to have the new peach tree in that hole by end of the day. Certainly end of the weekend should I hit a snag.

I am so excited. I’ve been taking the little baby steps, trying not to overdue, resting periodically rather than pushing and it is paying off. I can sit on my front porch and survey the progress I have made.

After the peach goes in I am planting to rose bushes to replace the dead ones I removed last week. That has been on my to do list since before the Pandemic. In fact, a lot of this dates back to 2018.

I don’t have to feel embarrassed or like a slacker any more. I can point and say “I did this.”

All due to the baby steps™ method. It doesn’t make me feel overwhelmed. It encourages me to do just a little, as much as I can and that is enough. And soon, whatever it is is done!

Looking at your accomplishments is so inspiring.

BTW, if the rain ever gets to be too much, feel free to put it in a priority mail large flat rate box and send me, as many as you like. I can use it all.

    Yay progress!

Incremental moments of progress sometimes are so, so satisfying after job nears completion!
