CH: Day 58

Yesterday.

Today. The siding all looks done…

…but it is not. There is some siding above the large window that needs to be installed (picture from yesterday).

A problem is that the scaffolding on the deck is higher than the scaffolding on the ground (to the right, out of picture). Thus, to finish the siding above the large window I have to scamper up to the high scaffolding deck, sit on the deck, duck my head a bit to avoid the underside of the turret, and work away.

Not fun.

As such, my plan is to make a shift.

If I move ahead with re-installing the entry in the adjacent NW corner, I could then remove the deck, and re-install it in the NW corner. This would mean that the scaffolding under the turret could be at ground level, and I could much more comfortably install the missing siding on the main west front, prep, and paint.

I am all for making Ross comfortable.

My new focus: installing the entry where the Tyvek window now is.

Would moving the deck, at least temporarily, make installing the door easier? Or is it all done from the inside?

Couldn’t you remove the deck whether you install the front door or not? If the deck is going to go anyway, does it matter when? If the issue is using the new big window as a temporary entrance you can always make some temporary steps for access. Then you could install the door and rebuild the deck in the new spot at your leisure.

I suppose it would depend on the time factor. What do you have time to get done before the next inspection. And when you can get your crew to come and help with the front door.

I guess now you know how Michelangelo felt painting the Sistine chapel, sorta. Lying on your belly instead of on your back.

Turn the scaffolding 90 degrees and use the ‘ladder’ side to lay a plank across and finish the work sitting.
