Cody Scores! AGAIN!

In 2017, I did a post about the tragic discovery that I was missing 21 Yale & Towne Austerlitz sash pulls.

Oh, the horror.

The horror.

Recently though, the ever-intrepid Cody contacted me with a Red Alert! He had found something.

FIVE!!!!!!!!

The pulls were on eBay with a Buy It Now. Without hesitation, I Buyed It, STAT!

They are a bit scruffy but will clean up well.

So, 21 now reduced to 16! It is like a miracle! My elation is great! Thanks, Cody!

Thus, while the world is really scary right now, in a small city in Kansas, something is just a little bit better.

Small moves. Small moves.

Hi Ross. (If you already know about this. forgive my redundancy) 😉
Just did a cursory search for “Yale & Austerlitz sash pulls” — I just found them in the
1894 The Yale & Towne Manufacturing Company product catalog-hard cover!! Well, it is 1894 !!
    Heres the web address: absupply.net
Its a PDF of that catalog.
    Ornamentation-MORENGO
    School-Empire
    No. 1347, Flush Sash Lift
    Page 175.
    I’ll keep looking!! and
    keep u posted! 😁

Also, just a thought: did u ever contact DuMouchelles in downtown Detroit? They might know something. Im sure you know theyve been appraisers on Antiques Roadshow for years.
    Just another thought…

    Always happy to help.

Somehow, stepping back over the “20+ missing” threshold makes it seem less monumental a task! Having more things to keep eyes out for than the items on my own wish list makes digging through piles and pages of crap on eBay MUCH more enjoyable.

Plus in a small city in Kansas, something is just a little bit better, and I had a hand in facilitating it!

O.k. so everybody knows this but me….where are those pulls going to go?? Butlers pantry? I swear I have read almost all you posts at least twice, so I should know this.
    But I don’t.😣🙄🤔

They are sash pulls, Linda. For the windows.

    Pocket doors? Window sashes?

It wouldn’t be such a treasure hunt if enough replacements were all found in one place. Do you do them up the same way you do your lighting fixtures?

Also, you might post pictures of a window with sash pulls in place for Linda A. and others who haven’t noticed them on other windows or don’t know that is what they’re called. Sash pulls really are insets that allow you to lift the window not pull it, so that could be confusing her.

Note: I write the following in full knowledge that in an earlier post you wrote that you have sealed your windows and don’t plan to open them, using the HVAC system to keep the interior conditioned throughout the year.

My grandparents house had a pair of sash pulls on every window. Grandaddy made levers, painted to match the trim in every room on one of the window sills.
The levers were a straight piece of wood which was about eight inches long with one end tapered to fit inside the sash pull. A cylinder of wood about the same width as the top of the pulls’ inset from the sill. One edge of the cylinder was sanded flat and the lever was glued to it near the end that would be inserted. If the window was stuck, or just needed to be opened, the lever was inserted, the end push down, and, voila!, the window was open enough that even if it was stuck, he could get his hands under the bottom of the window to put some oomph into the lifting.

Are you really going to keep all of the windows sealed all of the time? No opening up to air the house out on a beautiful day?
