Decorating Movement II

This paper has been ordered for the library. Will arrive later this month or February. Ross excited. By Bradbury and Bradbury.

New rug arrived.

New hipster table arrived. $65 and WAY better than I expected.

Went to pick up hipster chairs in Kansas City. Car blew up 5 minutes from pick-up location. $800 to have car towed back to Kansas City. Repairs should be complete early this week. Then a second pick-up will be attempted. Pray.

Walls unfinished. But new rug. New table. And the 1920s sitting set which never looked right before in library but…which looks pretty good now. Thus, the BIG question: Which will look better in the end? The 1920s set? Or the hipster chairs? Time will soon tell! (Sorry for bad image.)

    Good day Ross,
I love the wallpaper which you’ve ordered and think it’s going to look fantastic alongside all the other items. The only thing I’m less convinced by is the small table, which in the photo seems a little too high.
Hopefully the car is fixed soon as that’s all you need now.
    Happy Sunday!

    Colin

I think the trouble with the table in its placement in the photo is that in that grouping it is functioning as a coffee table and it is too high to be a center coffee table. If it were placed in the left corner next to the arms it would visually bring it right back to scale. Which also makes me doubt its look next to the cool hipster chairs. It probably looks different still when walking around the set in person.

What an adventure in KC! Car trouble is such a drag! Thank goodness you are OK:-)

The Bradbury and Bradbury wallpaper is stunning!

Love the rug! It looks so nice!

Love the hipster table & chairs! The current pendant lighting will look great with the table and chairs!

It is going to be such a fun room!!

I rather like that 1920s suite in the library. I wouldn’t be surprised once you put those hipster chairs in you decide to go back to the 20s set. Plus they have arms. But you’ll only ever know seeing it all in place.

Table seems a bit, hmm, something. Not sure what material it is made of but have you considered stenciling something on the top? It just seems to need something. A vase or tchatchke of some kind. Or maybe just a beautifully bound book placed on it.

I’d got with the 1920s suite. I almost always go for the old and authenic.

While I LOVE the 1920s set, in the photo it looks crowded. It may look differently in real life, photos are always tricky. I also would worry about the effect of the settee being so close to the radiator. It may damage it from the heat. If it is too crowded, or too close so as to damage the settee, then I would go with just the two hipster chairs. I do prefer an armchair for reading, though. And I decorate for comfort as much as anything in my house. But then, I don’t live in a spectacular house like that!

    1920’s set, please.
Is there room somewhere else in the room to enable the use of the 1920’s set AND the hipster chairs?
I find chairs without arms uncomfortable to sit on. My arms just dangle.

As always, I love watching your process unfold. And I love the wallpaper and rug — and I usually loathe wallpaper. That room will be spectacular.

Ross – have you considered radiator covers ? I grew up with them and they can add to the look of a room They can look like a console cabinet or some sort of shelf and do hide unattracrive radiators.

I was thinking that. With a cover, perhaps with cut outs reflecting some of the themes of the room, the settee could be moved to where the arm chair is and the arm chair put on the other side, the table moved back toward the covered radiator and the armless chair relocated. That would move everything a bit back toward the radiator allowing a bit more breathing room. But as others have mentioned, it is difficult to tell scale, etc. in a photo. I like a lot of walking space around my tables but then, I tend to knock a lot of stuff off with my hips when I travel.

For me… a big comfy armchair for reading and of course, falling asleep in!

I love the darker wallpaper inset idea, it references the parlor without exactly matching… and i think a more serious/moody tone is right for a library! The 1920’s set does look good, but so will the “hipster” chairs.

you kind of have to just get all the ingredients together and play with it a bit, right?
