Every time I look at your house, it takes my breathe away.

I don’t remember this post but I do recall a lot of what it contained. What stood out in my mind the most were the triple windows in the Stair hall niche. The stained glass in the bottom had been installed upside down and after you restored them you put it in correctly so now the borders make sense.

The house has certainly come a long way. You should be so proud of what you have accomplished in saving this jewel of a house.

Kansas is smart to have a program that saves as many of their historic houses as possible. Kudos for Dr Doug.

Any renewed thoughts on whether you’ll ever apply again for another grant?

What might you do with another one? Dot the I’s and cross the T’s on all the remaining exterior work, or rebuild the stairhall? I remember both projects being contenders at one point.

You’ve come this far – I don’t see what harm it would do to reach out again to see if you can get more money to help secure the future of the house.

      Hi Cody!

Th East and South facades are still uncomplete in terms of being restored.

I will not be able to afford such work, so, yes, I will need to apply for an unprecedented third Heritage Trust application. But, it is a BIG house! And in terrible condition, still, in some areas (as with the porte cochere. Which needs massive urgent attention.)

I may make such an application this year.

What a nice reminder of the impressive amount of work you’ve done! I think I first started reading when you were redoing the stairwell years and years ago, and have been hooked since 😁

It still amazes me that no other state has a system like this. You can syndicate tax credits, but a grant is a much more direct avenue to project completion. Hooray for good legislation!
