Drum Roll, Please! The Marble Vanity ARRIVES!

Last week, I did a post about Mary finding this marble vanity, period-correct for the Cross House. But…but…how to get it TO the Cross House?

Celeste(L) and Cindy(R) to the rescue! They drove 10 hours to Emporia with the vanity in their backseat!

Celeste is a super-fan of this blog, and has read every post. She even remembered the names of my indoor kitties! It was great fun touring the house with her as she would gasp with delight at X or Y or Z! “Oh! That’s the termire-damaged wall!”

We all went out to Radius for lunch and had delicious pizza, and then Celeste and Cindy receive the Grandest Ever Grand Tour™; all four floors plus the carriage hours, with chatty pit stops sandwiched in.

Celeste and Cindy have been friends for ages, and live near each other. I did not know that Celeste had to hire cat care for the trip, and Cindy dog care. I had previously stated that I would reimburse their gas, pay for overnight accommodation in Emporia, and take them to lunch. But after hearing this news I added: “Include the kitty and doggie care!”

Finally, with us all exhausted, we jumped into our vehicles to head to THE coolest AirBnB in town:

Zounds! The house was ONLY available this one night, and after every other place I checked out was booked already!

Entry is via a bridge!

The big room is an octagon, and with FABULOUS original lighting! Ross happy!

This is the screamingly cool fountain which was, tragically, not currently working.

The big room centers on an amazing blue stone fireplace!

And…as if all this wasn’t amazing enough, the master bedroom sinks were THIS!!!!!!!!

Well, I soon left Celeste and Cindy alone to SWIM IN THE POOL, and I returned to my humble home.

Oh! Oh! Wanna see the marble vanity in place?

Scroll way down…

SQUEE!!!!!!!! The vanity sorta kinda in place. The high back proved no problem. The wall behind will have wood wainscoting up to the very high windowsill, as it was originally.

The marble, exactly what I wanted, works well with the original flooring.

Major yummy brackets!

This whole thing has been miraculous.

First, Mary contacts me. “I think I found the perfect marble vanity for you!.”

Second, Celeste contacts me: “I can bring it to you! My friend Cindy and I would love a road trip!”

Third, Celeste learned that, after I contact the seller, the seller spurned all other offers for the vanity. “It’s already spoken for.”

Fourth, after getting discouraged about everything already being booked in Emporia, a single night IN THE COOLEST PLACE was available for just the night.

So, thank you Mary!

Thank you, Celeste!

Thank you, Cindy!

Looks great; you will have to call this the “Celestial Bathroom” in Celeste’ honor!

OMG all fabulous! I LOVE the AirBnB and if we ever come to Kansas to visit you for the grand tour, we will stay there. Those sinks are cra-zee! That is unless that mansion that is an inn is available lol.

Congrats on the sink and the new friends Ross. You are the best!

  4. Christine on September 26, 2019 at 8:55 pm

All the powers of the universe move to give you what you want when you make your request with clarity and sincerity.

Ross, I believe this statement more and more after seeing you manifest exactly the right____ (fill in the blank) for your house at the right time for when it’s wanted and needed.

I have no doubt that the faux painter, the chimney repairer, the perfect fabric, the vintage wall paper, the fence, the renter… EVERYTHING and EVERYONE you need will walk in that door when it’s the right time.

You’re making magic, my man. It is awe inspiring to watch. Thank you for sharing it with us.

The sink looks great, and I really like the bathroom tile floor. What a nice group of ladies from finding the sink to delivering the sink. It’s perfect for the Cross House.

I bet you didn’t get a sinking feeling from seeing that rare beauty in place .

Ross! This sink truly is wonderful for your house. I love love love the color of the stone in your bathroom. Mazel Tov!

The sink is perfect there! So happy everything worked out

  9. Kim on September 27, 2019 at 9:22 am

Is there anything a road trip & like-minded friends can’t accomplish? It’s so wonderful that everything has come together. 🍀 I’d call this a particularly lovely adventure for everyone.
Wow – looking down on the sink over the floor is a thrust back in time! It will be exciting to see the wainscoting to go up! 🌻

    It takes a village!

Kismet! [Which might have been a kool name for the AirB&B 😉 ]

I’m having happy images of a *cat* perched on the edge, looking for a drink, once you have it hooked up. [I trust you’ll share more pics in situ, as the room around it takes shape. And I agree, it does go great w/ the original floor.]

Goodness, Ross. Your karma is amazing! And Congrats on your beautiful, perfect sink. What a great tale!

When I became the 410,770th (+) viewer of Elizabeth’s Circa Old Houses interview with you (a mere 4 days ago) I could not claim to be a blog follower of anyone. I was simply looking up the history of a few lovely old Denver mansions after spending Sunday touring them during “Doors Open Denver”- put on by the local Architecture Foundation. Up popped the Cross House..and I wondered…hmm, just where would Emporia be in Kansas?? Let’s have a look at this Restoring Ross…and down the rabbit hole I fell. I’ve been obsessed since.

Your absolutely engaging and endearing writing style (not to mention your courage and love of your amazing mission) have me spellbound. I’ve joined your legion of followers who sip their morning cup of joe while moving down the RR chronological posts (first checking to see what you’ve been up to latest).

What a delight meeting you, Linda!

And thank you for the kind words!

      BIG hug!

This saga of the sink makes me smile. Something so right in the world when you see the generosity of all the people involved!

    • Ross on September 27, 2019 at 11:52 pm

      Thank you, Suzanne!

And, whenever I look at the marble vanity, I will think exactly what you expressed. The effort to get the vanity to the Cross House will become part of its meaning.

It’s one of the things I like about old house. Many of their respective parts have a history. New houses lack this.

I’ve got to ask. Who’s the dr who fan? (number plate on car).

    • Cindy Voigts on September 28, 2019 at 7:29 pm

I (Cindy) am the Dr. Who fan. I have been a fan since PBS started airing the original episodes. When asked who my favorite Doctor is, I always reply, “Yes” because I love them all.

I just love a story with so many happy endings. And more developments to follow. And that BnB is absolutely going on my list of places to stay.

  16. Sandra Lee on October 11, 2019 at 3:00 pm

Heartwarming the wonderful generosity of spirit of all involved!

Marble vanity is perfect and seems as if meant to be in that spot! Love love love it!

It’s astonishing the seller was so steadfast!

All planets must have been in alignment! Haha

So happy for you Ross & so thankful. You are always so grateful for all the kindnesses of strangers who are now friends of yours!

All of us love you for you & your amazing labor of love!

That’s a really nice one! I wish I could post a picture of the sink and claw foot sports I recently bought. I’m trying to make up my mind about them, if I want to install them or look for something else.
