Four Facades. A Third Time.

Kit recently asked that I do an update on my seemingly well-known Four Facades post from 2015.

I was surprised to find that I did an update in 2017.

So, Kit, this 2024 edition is for you!

WEST. When I purchased the house, March 2014.

August, 2014.

April 2015. I had thought this was done.

But in 2017 I “enhanced” and tweaked the color scheme. It made a huge difference as the exterior really came alive. Still looks same, today.

January, 20, 2021. It was an important day. And the only time I ever put flags out.

NORTH. 2015

2017. Still same, today.

NORTH PORCH, 2015.

October, 2017. Still same. This still thrills me.

EAST. 2015

2024. I keep staring at this picture with one repeating thought: Could I squeeze finishing this into my 2024 schedule? It is really visible…

…from the adjacent highway.

SOUTH. 2015. As uncrispy as one can get. Lordy!

2024. Redoing the endless shingles on the second floor about did me in. But…damn…it looks good!

And, I did all this monumental work by myself! My old self!

Wowie! You can be super proud! The process has been fun to watch and your blog posts are fun to read.
Here’s to many more successful renovation steps!

Your determination and perseverance continue to impress and amaze me! I also own an older house (1913 American Foursquare) in WA state, and as much as I want to do everything “right” (nothing new, oh the horrors!), sometimes it’s just too hard. I admire your work and your stubbornness to do it the way you want it! I love everything you do. Great job! You should be soooo proud of yourself!

Bravo Ross! Your devotion detail and determination have gotten me through many a painful patch of life.
    More hugs to you!

    Sensational, Ross!

…but know your limitations, and Get Help! (Sigh, wish it could be Me!)

Thank you Ross! You have done a whole lot of great work over the years. My favorite is the north side with that gorgeous porch.

AMAZING! I only found the blog during 2020 (thanks, pandemic?) but I’ve enjoyed watching the magic you’re creating as you transform the Ross/Cross house. Thank you for sharing your journey and your heart, sir.
(I used google maps to creep the old house exterior…. now THAT is a time trip as far back as 2008! The old girl looks like the addams family mansion!)

Fantastic progress, with everything else going on!

You are an inspiration, Ross! I refer people to your blog as they attempt the seemingly impossible with their homes.

wonderful update. It’s amazing to look back on the work you’ve done so far, and I hope that the hot summer passes leaving a lovely fall to get another face finished.

I use your “baby steps” mantra when I’m working on my (much much much smaller) house exterior. You’re an inspiration.

What if you declared a “cross house devotees” convention and invited willing blog followers to come up and lift a hammer while you supervise? I’d come

    Hooray, thank you Ross!!!

The East facade is very tempting because it has so much work done already… but you just KNOW those second floor shingles are gonna be a horrorshow. But then again, so much done already!

The South face has the worst of the work done, probably, but the ground floor and porte-cochère have lots of fiddly bits.

I don’t know, I think if it were me I’d do all the triangles next. They seem easy!

Your perseverance, talent and skill always impress, amaze and inspire, Ross. The latest pictures look gorgeous. The still-to-be-done portions tantalizing on what it will look, completed. Onward, astounding Ross.
