Health Update

So, y’all know that about three weeks ago I developed a blood clot in my left calf, which hugely swelled up.

I was put on blood thinner (I keep wanting to write paint thinner), and the days passed.

This past week my ankle and foot also swelled up, scarily. So, another trip to the emergency room. Was the swelling normal? Or YIKES?

The doctor said it was the former. Whew! But he scolded me for not elevating my leg and he also advised a compression sock, something I had never heard of.

Sexy, right?

Well…after two days of elevating my leg (it is resting on my desk as I type), and one day of a compression sock, this morning I was gobsmacked to discover that my foot and ankle looked mostly normal, and the calf swelling had reduced by like 80%! Squee!!!!!!!!

No doubt, too, has been the help of Gray cat. She has graciously deigned to share the towel on the desk.

She also, generously, decided to help with compression.

Glad to hear your on the mend, with some help from furfriends. Was just wondering about how you are doing. Stay safe!

      Thanks, LS!

    Ohhh and super sexy socks!

You really have to take this seriously. Glad you are doing better. How is the completion coming on your house?

    • Ross on April 17, 2021 at 11:28 pm

      Hi, Dan!

Oh, I’m taking this very seriously. While I will likely be fine, if the clot moves to the wrong place, I could die.

I’m confused by the completion question.

      • Dan Goodall-Williams on April 18, 2021 at 2:13 am

Sorry, I mean the house you are living in. I recall you needed things finished there.

        • Ross on April 18, 2021 at 9:43 am

Ahh, thank you, Dan. Progress is slow but steady at the HILI (house I live in).

Cats are super helpful. Hahahaha! Glad you’re better.

Glad the sexy compression socks and elevating your leg helped. Did the doc say to do this every day or just when it swells? Listen to the doctors orders and take care of yourself. So glad to see Gray is doing her part to compress your leg.

    • Ross on April 17, 2021 at 11:26 pm

Yes, Cindy, Gray is proving an important part of the medical team!

I plan to wear the sock until the swelling is all gone. I take it off when going to bed.

So very sexy! Love Gray! Glad you are doing well.

Ross, thanks for the update. I had been wanting to ask how you are.

Did you get, and are you taking the medicine?

    Lotta people caring about you,

    Hugs…
    JM in NY

    • Ross on April 17, 2021 at 11:24 pm

      Thank you, Karen!

I mentioned that I’m on blood thinner medicine. I got a coupon for the first month (a $900 savings!) and the doctor (during my second emergency room visit) gave me another coupon, so one more $900 savings!

I’m hoping that, if all goes well, I won’t need more blood thinner.

Purring has been shown to aid in healing, even broken bones, so I do hope Gray isn’t slacking when she assists with your compression. I can loan you a cat that purrs almost non-stop if Gray is slacking, so be sure to let her know!

    • Ross on April 18, 2021 at 9:46 am

Can you FedEx your cat, Miriam?

Hey! Compression socks are great. They come in all colors and patterns, not just white. Aging baby boomers and young nurses are to blame.
They helped with foot and leg fatigue this past winter while this almost 70 year old pulled vines in an abandoned cemetery. I hope I’ll be able to wear them when it’s hot and humid here in central Virginia.
I’m glad you got your needed medicine. Healthcare is a racket but we need them so they get away with it.
Hope you never have this problem again. Hugs to the kitty.

      Thanks, Cindi!

I was going to mention about the socks too! Great minds think alike! Bless you for your care of the abandoned cemetery. There are so many of them. Was always my dream to do that and re-etch tombstones, but not happening as of now….. I hear the socks are such a tussle to get on! But necessary. 🙂

I’m so relieved to hear you’re doing better. Thanks for the update. And I’m glad Gray is on the case. Gray is a good soul — right up there with you, my friend.

Love that Gray kitty cat! Such a good caregiver!

She probably intuited you were in dire straits….

”Ross sitting down with his leg compressed & elevated? Extraordinary kitty 🐈‍⬛ caregiver skills needed and provided by me!” (Gray kitty 🐈‍⬛ cat thought cloud)

    So-o-o-o glad you are better!

  12. Laurie L Weber on April 18, 2021 at 5:12 pm

Ross – TAKE CARE of yourself! I know it’s hard for people who have been healthy to accept a health problem. Know you are supported. 🙂

Glad you are on the mend. Compression socks can be a pain getting on and off, especially if you are a fat boy like me, LOL; definitely better than a blood clot tho. I’ll reinforce what your doctor told you about being careful while on the blood thinners; I nicked a finger with a utility knife recently and thought I was going to have to go to the ER before it stopped bleeding.

The REAL, DIRE, IMPORTANT question is…since this all happened, have you at least ATTEMPTED to look into getting yourself some insurance?

Glad you’re on the mend (ish)

    • Ross on April 20, 2021 at 9:10 pm

      Of course, Cody.

But Obamacare will cost me $900 a month, with a whopping $8300 deductible.

And this would offer zero financial help for what I’m now going through.

On the bright side, in February I’ll qualify for Medicade!

      • Grandmere Louise on April 22, 2021 at 3:43 pm

So until February climbing no scaffolding?
There might be shingles up there. You know you don’t want more of that.

👍👍👍👍agree with Cody H! Health insurance , my family would be bankrupt 10 times over if not for Health insurance.
