For several years now I have been repeating: The Republican party has one agenda: to harm the American people. Their only partial exception: The very rich, which the GOP helps to make even richer.

All these headlines are just from the the past week. Yep, just one week.
All these headlines are Republican led. Democrats support none of the above.
Notably absent from all these headlines is any policy to help you and me. Like improving our infrastructure, reducing inflation, raising wages, creating jobs, improving healthcare, reducing the deficit, and on and on and on. All these issues though are being addressed by, yep, Democrats.
If you are still voting Republican, my question is why? Why are you helping to harm all of us?

Totally agree. This is not the country it was when I was a child. While I still disagreed with a lot of the Republican agenda, at least most of them believed in the good of the country and were willing to work with Democrats. Not any more…

In the 1970s and 1980s I enjoyed debates with Republicans. While we had vastly different views, the conversations were based in reality.
Beginning in the 1990s, this unraveled, and I’ve not had a single conversation with a Republican in at least two decades that was attached to reality. And this is what I now know:
1) Everything Republicans believe about their party is a lie.
2) Everything Republicans believe about Democrats is a lie.
I enjoy a good debate about policy. But how does one debate reality vs. fantasy?
You forgot Iowa. They passed a law banning gender affirming treatment for minors, which the governor plans to sign today with DeSatan present. So my parental right to decide the medical treatment for my trans son was just stripped away in Iowa. I will have to take him to Chicago for treatment (appointment made) and go to Illinois for his medication (talked to a pharmacist already). I am stuck living here in Iowa due to financial constraints, or I would be moving. They are also in the process of passing a law that will force this kid with a mustache and goatee to use the women’s bathroom! His insurance (Medicaid) will no longer cover this, so my extended family is having to step in to help us with the medical bills AND the gas money for four trips a year to Chicago, and monthly trips to Illinois for his medication. I run a cat rescue, so we will have to drive five hours each way, and see the doctor, all in one day! We need to stop calling the Republican Party the GOP (Grand Old Party) since it no longer is. It is the TRASH Party- Transphobic, Racist, Ableist, Sexist, Homophobic Party. And people who vote Republican are TRASH! And yes, I have been angry for many years about their actions, and now I am LIVID.

I’m SO sorry that you’re having to go through this. Our Governor here in GA is getting ready to sign a similar bill. I have a friend with a trans daughter and they don’t know what they’re going to do. Probably drive to NC for now, but they’re still trying to figure it out.
Kara, as you know, this past week STUNNING revelations about Fox have been revealed, proving that they knowingly lie to their viewers.
And why? Because they think if they tell the truth, they will lose viewers!

Horrified! Just when I started to feel hope again, these stupid rethugicans keep coming up with all this crap. “Party of small government” my ass! I’m so glad you post these political posts as well as your loving posts on the Cross House and your adventures with furnishings. Shaking my head all the damn day.
You know, George Santos is what the Republican Party represents. This makes me glad that I am the age I am, so I can die & get away from all this…….

Yes indeed. It seems that faux news of several types has purloined away all common sense from conservative-leaning viewers.
I agree with you Ross.
How do you have a discussion with people who are so completely divorced from reality and fact and truth? It’s impossible. And I have no idea how it will ever be fixed.
Thank god I live in Australia. At least my fellow Aussies can agree to vote out the backwards politicians that write those bills. What happened to the glory of America? Australia is looking better than the US at the moment and that’s saying something given that a couple of years back we got a new prime minister every 6 months due to the childish games that our politicians were playing (until we kicked them out).
Unfortunately, I’ve come to realize that racism, sexism, homophobia, etc. never go away, they just go into remission like cancers and viruses, and all it takes is stress in the culture and someone /thing to give it permission to metastasize and it can become virulent again. Humans have a fear of otherness in our reptilian parts of our brains that can overtake us if we don’t have a strong connection with our prefrontal cortex, the wiser part of our selves. I think it’s up to those who can think more clearly, and with empathetic understanding, to help guide those who are so afraid, either to a greater understanding, or if not possible, to outflank them and short circuit their hatred, misogyny and prejudice so we don’t all go down the nightmarish hellholes that our worst natures would take us through.
All of these headlines are terrifying. And just yesterday barely Speaker of the House, Kevin McCarthy appointed Marjorie Traitor Green to act as speaker pro tempore. Disgusting. And now some of the January 6th tapes that McCarthy gave to Fox Entertainment News have been edited and aired making the insurrection sound like just tourists looking around. The last decent Republican President was Eisenhower. When is this going to end?
I call the GOP the Death Party. They talk about death panels? Projections. They *are* the death panels.
The hate the American people. If you’re not white, not rich, not healthy, not young, not old enough to vote, not Christian and especially if you’re not male.
Left out a few more. Like not conforming to their idea of gender or sexuality. But it got kinda long, there is so much they hate.
Thank you for sharing this blog. Reading all the comments was a good reminder that there are more than a handful of people who feel as we do about the “christian” nationalist movement in the Republican party.
