I RELINQUISH MY CRAZY CAT PERSON CROWN

For most of my adult life, I was a 3-cat person. That doesn’t make one an official Crazy Cat Person.

But, as y’all know, a while back, I saved 3 sets of kittens, a total of 14 new cats in my life. And, thus, earning me the crown.

One set of five I found in my garage, very confused, very hungry, but with no mommie.

What choice did I have? I welcomed them to Ross Land.

Purrmatic is the orange to the left. The teenage years.

As an official Crazy Cat Person, my life became, well, crazy.

That is my neighbor, Christina, and her big doggie. She would come over nightly for a video, and I’d open the window to the far left and call out: Kitties! And all 14 would come leaping in from the protective fenced yard. My inner child could not have been more excited.

Over time, of course, kitties would depart for Florida. One by one by one by one, until I was left with just Purrmatic.

Purrmatic (R) and his near-twin Flash (L). The adult years.

In December 2022 I did a blog post about the soon-to-depart Purrmatic and Miss Asia. I was certain each had little time left.

And, by March, Miss Asia did depart for Florida:

Purrmatic though, to my great astonishment, rebounded. Until recently. He clearly had trouble eating, and I have been feeding him free-range chicken breasts from Aldi, uncooked, and cut into tiny bits.

This morning tough it was clear that I needed to book him a flight to Florida.

He was an incredibly gentle boy.

Tonight, I removed my crown and carefully placed it on a shelf. I’m now back to three cats.

For now.

    Hugs, Ross.
Purrmatic looks like my boy Finn. Those orange boys are loves, aren’t they?

Fair winds and good weather, Purrmatic. Ross, I’m sure he would tell you “Thanks for everything, I had a great time” as would all of the rest.

I wouldn’t retire that crown. In your heart, you will always be a crazy cat person, no matter the number. They all reside in your heart.

Oh Ross, I’m so sorry. You get to keep a crown just for being such a wonderful guy who takes care of kitties in the world! I am losing a cat right now, he is fading away as I type. He’s been a good boy for many years but he’s just tired. Thank you for being such a kind man to small animals.

Oh sweet Purrmatic. I’m sorry to hear your time together is at an end. I only have one now having lost 3. Two at the ripe ages of 18+ and a wee kitten to traffic. Your dedication to those babies means you keep your crown for life. Much love as this is a hard time. Xxx

Oh Ross, I am so sorry. I know the pain well. I am the Crazy Cat Lady of Wellman, Iowa. Currently I have 21 adults, all but two strictly inside. And I miss every one of the dozens of kitties that have gone to Florida already. Don’t hang up that crown yet. The Cat Distribution System is not done with you yet. Your local shelter may have a special needs cat that needs you. That is where most of mine come from, the unadoptable ones. Or more kittens may show up. And with your big heart, you will welcome them in. You might even decide to foster cats or kittens, giving them a head start to a better life. The good thing about fostering is there is no long term commitment for those of us getting on in years. So keep that crown nearby.

Oh, the Orangeness. 🧡 The orange ones are practically an anomaly. Even the females can be such dudes – a total-bro-thing. No doubt Ross, you & Purrmatic were lucky to have each other. 🐱
The most difficult thing about loving someone is losing them. ❤️‍🩹

Ross, I’m so sorry about Purrmatic,,, he was very lucky to have you as an owner🧡 Your story about taking in all those kittens is so heartwarming. Hope your crown doesn’t stay on the shelf too long.
