…at the big house today. I adore these two.

Last week I spoke with somebody I’ve known for 28 years, and was startled to discover that she…eek!…votes Republican.

I said: “You voted for the orange menace?”

“I did in 2016 but not 2020 and not in 2024.”

“So, are are gonna vote for Harris?

She shook her head no. “I’m probably not gonna vote.”

I actually gasped.

“You have a granddaughter, right?”

She nodded.

“Do you think she should be able to control her body, or do you think the government and politicians should?”

“I don’t want to have this conversation.”

“Didn’t you mention earlier that you’re soon qualified to sign up for Medicare?”

She nodded.

“Medicare saved my life two years ago. I almost died from blood clots.

“Yes, I heard about that.”

“Democrats created and have protected Medicare. Democrats created and have protected Social Security. Will you be signing up for Social Security?”

She nodded.

“So, you’re happy to take advantage of programs created and protected by Democrats…but you won’t vote for them?”

She just shrugged her shoulders.

I cannot fathom this kind of thinking. She will not vote for a party which does all kinds of things to help her and her family. Things that she’s only too happy to take advantage of.

Again:

Democrats HELP

Republicans HARM

Alas, my 94-year-old mother used to have some level of common sense. But faux news has demolished that. She says she’s voting for you know who a third time despite not liking him because “only he can fix things.”

And of course she loves her Medicare and Social Security.

    I despair.

Your sign is lovely, by the way.

      Thank you, Kate. BIG hug!

Have you asked your mom what Trump fixed during his 4 years in the Oval Office?

And, I think most of what is currently wrong with America is a result of Trump.

I have. And I also mention that she might want to watch more reliable media as she used to. Like what? she asks.

Oh dear. This is a woman who supported Roe v Wade at one time. Who likes her Medicare and Social Security. The gaslighters and cultists purloined her mind away and it’s likely she’ll only find it again beyond the beyond at this point. At least she doesn’t fly their flags or wear red hats…

This sort of logic flabbergasts me. Why do people prefer to stick their heads in the sand rather than face uncomfortable facts? Lies have become acceptable social currency and the resulting damage is heartbreaking!

I would love to put up a sign like that. I can guess how long it would last in my yard before being destroyed or stolen.

Unfortunately most of my family votes for that guy. When I’ve tried to give my point of view and ask why do they support a misogynistic rapist that talks about his daughter in vulgar ways, their response? They aren’t going to explain why to “preventing babies from being killed.”

    Sigh.

It’s staggering to see how many citizens have willingly surrendered their ability to think for themselves. Factual decision making seems to have died out in the USA. Damned sad imo.

        Grant, I’ve learned the following:

Everything Trump supporters believe about Trump is a lie.

Everything they believe about Democrats is a lie.

And nothing…nothing…can shake these beliefs. It’s surreal.

Love your sign. We have one (but not that big). I also have a Cat Ladies for Kamala button and shirt. I’ve been volunteering at the Dem headquarters. Unfortunately, one of my three children and her family has been taken over by the maga ass-hats. Her brothers won’t have anything to do with her. Sigh. We have to have a blue tsunami to regain sanity in this country.

      BIG hug, Karen,

I know a wonderful couple. VERY Liberal. Thier son though voted for the orange menace.

Recently though he said: “Mom. I been watching a lot of Trump speeches. And…he’s all about hate and anger. I didn’t see that before. And I can’t be a part of that.”

I think your conversation with your friend may have more of an impact than you realize. Not voting for trump in 2020 and 2024 are steps involved with breaking away from the dark cult of trump. Give her time, it seems she’s started absorbing information somewhere besides right wing media. Fingers crossed she’ll keep thinking about your conversation and decide to vote for Harris/Walz, but a no vote is better than a trump vote IMO.

In this, our oddly “traditionally red state”, I have a sneaking suspicion that quite a few people may actually, very quietly, vote … blue. After all, our governor is currently a Democrat, and she’s not even our first woman governor. Some Kansans still have a tendency to remain fairly stoic.
    Just a hunch.
A hopeful hunch. 💙 Great sign.

It is incomprehensible to me that this race is as close as it purports to be. the former president (I can’t even say his name. I have had to completely give up on playing the card game Spades.), is not only dishonest perpetually, he barely makes sense and has already attempted an insurrection. Praying that good sense prevails. I will be voting for VP Harris despite also living in a “red” state.
