Inched Inched Inched Inched Inched Along

So, the SE corner. It did not look bad from ground level. This soon proved an illusion. And what looked like a week of work…

…got bigger…

…and bigger…

…and bigger…

…and bigger…

…and bigger…

…and scary bigger…

…and oh fuck fuck FUCK bigger…

…and so much bigger that new scaffolding was required…

…and FUCK FUCK FUCK…

…but better…

…and better…

…and better…

…and better…

….and better…

…but back to bigger…

…and fucking bigger…

…but, better…

….and better…

…and back to bigger…

…but better…

…and scaffolding down, but back to bigger…

…and…the never-ending corner. Fuck! Oh! But wait! WAIT! For, the corner has…

…ENDED! IT HAS ENDED! IT HAS ENDED!

I think you missed an “inched.” My arms ache just reading this. Marvelous results, though!

Your perseverance amazes me… as well as your stamina! I remember that ‘2 steps forward, 3 steps back’ from our own restoration (an 1889 farmhouse nowhere near the scale of the Cross House). We used to joke that to change a lightbulb, you had to re-wire from the electric pole on the road… which was pretty much not a joke.

    I love watching your progress!

Thank God, there is an END to the rotten shingles. And it is beautiful, great job. You’ve earned a day or two off. Relax, if that’s possible.

I’m so very, very happy that you are done with this corner! I’m definitely bringing you wine on my next trip to Kansas. Not sure when that will be, but it will be in the next week or so.

Oh Ross, that’s beautiful! You do such good work!

My guy and I used to note, on both of our respective houses, that the house almost certainly breathed a sign of relief, and “knew” that we were helping it. Like an injured animal.

So thrilled for you! What a nightmare! Now you can breathe for a bit. You learned a lot about how much patience you have that you didn’t know you had. It’s so beautiful.
