Inchin’ Along
The bottom of the South Hall arch, adjacent to the internationally famous and now restored bump-outs. BEFORE. The bottom face of the arch is ringed with strips of Lincrusta, and infilled with a faux wood finish.
AFTER. Now I can strip off the old shellac, and repair the faux wood finish. But…better!
The top of the arch. BEFORE. This has bothered me since 2014.

While things seem very bad pretty much everywhere, in a small city in the middle of America, something is just a tiny bit better.
This makes my heart sing.

That is amazing. I can’t see the repairs. This is going to be so squee when you are done.
I think a lot of people are nesting and upping the home repairs. I started before the election but have stepped up my aggressive restore and repair since January. I noticed my neighbor must be dismantling his bathroom preparing to remodel as I can hear banging and broken tile for the past few days.
I know you’ve been at it for over a decade but others are joining you as a reaction to the state of reality outside our homes. We can’t control what’s going on in the real world but to an extent we can control what is happening within our own properties and houses.
Those repairs are flawless! How is the kitchen coming along?
The kitchen is moving along in the background. The new soapstone sink, as you know, has been delivered. Dr. Doug is moving along with the custom center island.

The lincrusta wainscot certainly perked up – an exciting little sneak peak at what lies ahead for the rest of the entry spaces.
Do you have the curved chair rail molding somewhere on a shelf in the basement, or will that have to be milled?
Curiously, that curved section was not saved. I don’t know why it was removed, either. I’m gonna guess that an eye-shaped table was made for the curve at some point, to throw keys and mail on. And I’m hoping that Dr. Doug will be able to make me such a piece.

You don’t shy away from it but don’t make it central to your house diary, either.
Just know that I visit often because The Weather Outside is Frightful and I find solace in one home in a faraway state in a small town is being brought back to a high standard a baby step at a time.

Buuut… how was the restored Lincrusta in the arch found? How was the cut Lincrusta on the pantry post-repair appear as one single piece of Lincrusta?
