Stunning, stunning, stunning. So jealous of the riches in just that little view.
I hope you are taking care of yourself, Ross!
Looks great! Out of curiosity, why do you refinish the trim before painting the walls? For refinishing floors I’ve always heard you should do the walls first to avoid splatters on new floors. Oh wait I think I’ve just realized the answer — cause you’re not sanding but instead using… alcohol (was that it?) to remove the old shellac so you have to be careful with paint anyways? Maybe?
Morning Christy B!
The process creates a real mess, and if the walls were finished first, I’d have to redo them after!
The graining on the trim is really lovely. I’m so glad you are able to save it. Its so curious that the right wall where the radiator is has no lincrusta. When you did the posts about the missing under stairs bench and shared the original drawing, I noticed the wall under the stairs didn’t show it either. Is it just the back hall wall that has it?
Hi, Sean!
The radiator wall did have Lincrusta (and one side still does). I will replace the missing bits.
It’s satisfying to stand back and look at good work. Job well done!
As an aside, I’m still thinking about that closet and you saying you wish you had dropped the equipment into the basement instead. Could you still do that without an unreasonable amount of effort and resources? I’d definitely reverse those door hinges though. Just pondering – I know you have enough work on the house to keep you busy until you’re 100!
Absolutely beautiful!
Stunning! I forget what a dramatic difference it makes when you give the woodwork a good cleaning (if that’s the right word).
Just gorgeous – and having that dark stain off them brightens the hallway up considerable!
Are you going to paint the walls in the hall when you are done restoring the trim? It looks great btw!
Hi, Susan!
Yes!
