Inching Along. Again.

With stunning weather the past few days, work resumed on the shingling. Today was 70-degrees, unprecedented for February. I do not know to be excited or terrified.

And now, the top level is shingled from east to west! Finishing the cornice will be next. Then the scaffolding will get lowered to complete the shingling. The end is near!

80 degrees in North Texas today… Indeed, not sure to be worried, but seized the day nonetheless. Nice update, love the distant shot of the the entire south side. At once shows how much there is left to do and how much has been done.
We’ll all probably pay for this mild winter next summer–but I’m happy it’s helping you along to finish the shingling and painting, at LAST!
I live in Sun Prairie WI and our Groundhog says 6 more weeks of winter. It was warmer than normal here too.
Great weather, tomorrow is supposed to be warm too. So you’ll get a lot done tomorrow as well. It’s coming along nicely.
It was 70 here in Missouri too, lovely and scary. Mother nature’s being little too kind too early.
Tremendous progress, Ross – congrats!
Wow. The light at the end of the tunnel! It’s coming together…
Do you need to re-shingle the 3rd floor gables, or just re-paint them?
Just repaint, Thad.
The reason the second-floor shingles were in such terrible shape was that they were stripped of paint like 20 years ago. And the sun brutalizes bare wood on a south-facing facade.
Related question, Ross: Are you going to reshingle the exterior of the library too?
Well, that’s a relief! I guess you’ll get to the gables when you get to them.
YAY! This south side has been the scourge of Emporia for too long and it is going to look fabulous when it is completed. Another testament to baby steps and doing it the right way!
The work that is done just looks so crisp and pristine! Good work as always, Ross.
It must feel so satisfying!
you. are. incredible.
Looks so amazing! Are you gonna finish paining the second floor shingles and cornice to the tower or are you gonna work on the first floor from the east corner? Or the 3rd floor gables?
Would you consider doing me the enormous favor of writing a post devoted to your reshingling process? I have identical work to do, and for some reason have been terrified of beginning. Seeing a step-by-step of your process would be enormously reassuring!
