Today. I painted the column capital and base, and added a back pinstripe to the porch cornice.

Yesterday. See the half gable of the porch roof?
Today. I recolored it. A fabulous bit of lusciousness which almost nobody sees.
A bit of the water table trim was missing. Could it, I wondered, be in the Aladdin’s Cave in the basement?
It was. Amazing.

Other homeowners must envy you the Cross House bone yard. It seems like so many pieces of the house were squirreled away there in past years, waiting for you to come and put them back where they belong.
The black details look really great. It’s a very small amount of color, but with big impact that really brings out the rest. Much like black window sashes.
I laughed when I read the title – so funny! By the way, is inchily even a word? Nevertheless, I think you accomplished a LOT today and it all looks great. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a picture of the porch from that angle, but I knew that the half gable was there from having seen the blueprints. Is that color #5 like the area under the dining room windows? I had thought that you might have painted it grey and sandstone like the front gable, but you were right again – it looks beautiful like this. By the way, it IS absolutely amazing that someone saved so many of the parts and then you came along and knew enough and cared enough to put the pieces back.
When my wife tells me to put on a sweater because she’s cold, I use the proper spelling and meaning and say, “I ainchilly, why are you?”
I know its bad. No comments needed, I shouldn’t have had that last glass of wine at dinner.

It’s cheating to go to Alladin’s cave after you notice a piece of trim missing. You are supposed to go to and identify the correct place for everything in the cave before you notice it’s missing.
I love that there are obscure pieces in the Cross House bone yard or as Ross terms it — Aladdin’s Cave 🙂 work is remarkable Ross!!!
Breathtaking! — the delicate black accents! The repetition of color #5 (with and without green wash)! Picking out the detail of the little half gable! Magical.
How is it possible that you find so many bits and pieces of Cross in the basement and lying around? One NEVER finds a place so…”incompletely complete” Unless it was meticulously kept the way it was built, which Cross has not been.
I can’t recall whether you have ever mentioned it, but has the chimney been painted red at some point? I never noticed it until I saw the photos in this entry.
