We could blame it on climate change, but I prefer to think that the Powers That Be are excited to see the South side become as beautiful as the rest of the house. I know I am!!
I didn’t think of that, Julie!
You are likely right!
I also love that the gap between the painted West side and the painted East side is getting smaller and smaller. Woohoo 🎉
Yes, that was my reaction to this photo as well!
YES!!! I LOVE how that gap is visibly shrinking with each shingle and brush stroke!
Really looking great! Glad the weather is holding up. As scary as it might be.
It’s looking so good! Crispy, even. And when I remember what a wreck this side of the house was when you started, I marvel at all you’ve accomplished.
How wonderful you have made such progress!!
Looks great. Once you’ve finished the unprotected south face of this wing, where to next? Extending the scaffolding up to the gables above, or move to the left and close the gap between this area and completed west front?
Also, a while back you mentioned using the interior of the second floor sleeping porch to show what you now believe to be the origin palette. Have you shown a comparison of swatches of both for comparison anywhere, or are you saving it for the reveal?
Hi, Michael!
When the shingling is done, next will be the painting of the 3rd floor south gable (seen in the image above).
Then the scaffolding will be moved back to SE corner so the upper upper partial 4th floor gable can be painted (somewhat visible upper right).
Then the unpainted portion of the second floor (left) will get painted.
Then the whole first floor.
I’m already working on a extension to the 2017 Heritage Grant and the amount of work still unfinished, combined with a soon looming deadline, is making me ill.
Hugs to you, Ross. Your accomplishment is impressive.
