Kitties! Framed!

When I picked up the parlor seating set from my friend Carl, I also picked up this pair of frames.

The frames are fabulous. They need some repair work, mostly along the bottom, but this seems kinda easy.

The actual portraits though give me the creeps.

I plan to hang the frames in the Airbnb suite. I will keep the historic portraits in situ, and lay over them new images.

Like two from this short selection…

I will continue to collect antique frames for the suite, large and small, but fill each frame with sweet kitty/doggy images. And, likely, a few bat images!

I think my guests will be delighted by this.

I can’t wait!

Oooh….love All those pics! My Maine Coon cat, Bubba, looked liked those kittens when he was a baby. Cutest cat EVER! And the best cat in the whole world. He is 15 years old and still plays like a kitten and is THE most handsome cat on the planet. Though, is there any cat that isn’t darling? I think not!

    Wow! The frames are fabulous!

I like all the pics including old photos of loved ones from olden days like pioneers or somebody’s forebears!

They are eerie photos but still nice.

Glad you have the bedroom set!

    Things are falling in place!

Are the portraits early photographs, or pencil drawings? My family has a pair just like that of our great-great grandparents (circa late 1800s) which look like photos, but on closer inspection are pencil drawings.

I’m sure these cost the original owners a substantial sum. It’s sad the eventual descendants didn’t consider them worth keeping. Glad you are preserving them!

I wonder if there are any names on the back of the pictures?

I am very happy that you are not discarding the original portraits. I am fortunate to have several like this of ancestors from the mid-late 1800s, and I hope that when I am gone that they are protected and passed down in the family. On the back of each I have written the names and all other information I have on the people, including where they lived and died. Our local Cracker Barrel has several of these old framed portraits hanging around the dining room, and it makes me sad to think that these stern looking people are someone’s ancestors, and that out there somewhere those descendants are either unaware that the pictures exist, or they did not care…
Back to Emporia now, I think your idea for the frames is great; everything you do is showing respect to the house, it’s era and history, while at the same time putting your unique style on it. I think that it is quite possible that you and your house may become famous on a national level before all is said and done, and that would bode well for the house’s long-term security and safety…

Side note: Am I the only one who thinks that the lady in the portrait looks like Miss O’Brien from Downton Abbey?

        Yes! That’s definitely O’Brien!! Lol

Those are beautiful frames. Are you planning to get the cute kitty/doggy pics printed on canvas? If you do a google image search for “Victorian cat” you’ll find some very whimsical pieces of artwork that might catch your fancy and blend your love of cute fluffy animals with the era of your home. Just a thought. I’m pretty much obsessed with my cats so I would love kitty decor in an Airbnb suite!

    Very Deadwoody, those old portraits.
