Island Color Suggestions

In my recent post about resuming work on the kitchen, I wrote: “The island will also be blue. What shade of blue I do not know. Suggestions?”

Mary suggested cornflower. I like this.

JP suggested Lupine from Sherwin Williams.

 suggested Sea Salt from

Wendy suggested Sea Salt from Sherwin Williams. This is very subtle. But when does Ross do subtle?

Grant suggested Petrol Blue. I found a wide range of colors by the name, which led me to this. Which I like.

Mary also suggested this. Which is  a bit too demure for Ross.

I think this is my favorite.

Just my two cents: there’s something magical about cornflower blue. Good choice!
(I once fell in love with twins -boy and girl- because they had cornflower blue eyes).

Corn flower blue is my hands down favorite. Aka “Diva Blue” in some paint colors. A warm blue — no green or gray to deal with. Sensuous blue!

My vote is for Cornflower as well. Good strong blue

The petrol blue reminds me of the peacock wall-paper – I like the idea of colours from different areas appearing in different rooms. I’m sure however you will come up with a stunning vision.

Hmm. That Colonial blue is not the color I was thinking of. I have some Tupperware that is supposed to be Colonial Blue but it looks more like a cross between the Lupine and the Cornflower. It isn’t muted or gray at all like that sample. Not as clear and bright as the cornflower but not as dark and intense as the Lupine. It is neither light nor dark but middle.

You will choose the right color, Ross, because you really have to see it in the space and if it isn’t quite right, it’s only paint and you can paint again. You have a fabulous color sense and it will end up being the right blue.

The Cornflower is a warm blue as it leans a bit to the red. The Lupine is a cool blue as it is leaning in the direction of green.

This is more the color I was thinking of:

But it all has to do with what it looks like in the space because light does funny things. Plus monitors do funny stuff with color so what I’m seeing on my laptop may not be what others are seeing on their phones or tablets.

I have a periwinkle blue for my bedroom ceiling.

I love the cornflower color! It would look wonderful with the lighting in your kitchen, too.

    Definitely cornflower blue!

I say get a sample of each color. Paint them on a board and put them in the kitchen and see which one you like the best in the house with it’s lighting. That really influences how the colors look.

I have a blue island and I love it. Mine is Sherwin Williams Dockside Blue. The Periwinkle is lovely

Lupine or Petrol Blue are my preferences, but I think Cornflower would work too!

I can imagine the Cornflower blue alongside the rich tones of the wood in the floor and other areas. Such a striking choice!

I have sea salt in my bedroom. I can attest to the fact that it is not a Ross color. I also vote for cornflower.
