Today, Charlie Kirk was killed.
He is credited with driving young, angry white voters to Trump, and helping him get elected.
Republicans are very upset at Kirk’s murder.
But here is who Kirk was:

Kirk Calls For Shooting Migrants: “Use Lethal Force” 3/24/24
Kirk: Children Should Watch Televised Executions 2/16/24

Kirk: Biden Hates You, “Bring Guns To Public Places” 10/12/23
Charlie Kirk: Carry Guns In Case Of Attack (in the US) By Hamas 10/11/2023
Kirk: The Deep State May Do “The JFK Thing” To Biden 9/15/23
Charlie Kirk: Biden Deserves “Prison Or Death Penalty” 6/23/23

This is America. Sure, he was despicable. But violence should never be condoned.
I didn’t condone violence, Jean.
Unless you are a MAGA dictator providing blank pardons to Jan 6 traitors trying to overthrow our government and attempting to assassinate our elected officials.
Unless you are Congress and the Military giving a military funeral at Arlington to a Jan 6 insurrectionist who died before she could assassinate Nancy Pelosi.
Really tired of the MAGA double standard.
I’m sending thoughts and prayers but not the thoughts they think and they don’t want to know what I’m praying for.
Don’t like it? Well, this Democrat is tired of turning the other cheek. I’m ready to sauce the gander. They want Germany in the 1930s and the Gilded Age? When France in 1898 comes I’ll be out i the streets with my knitting needles.
Basically tired of this MAGA shit.
I’ll be flying my California flag at full mast.
I feel bad for his wife and children.
I don’t think political violence is ever the answer.
But it’s still notable that Charlie Kirk once said that “a few deaths is an acceptable price to pay to retain our 2nd amendment rights”.
I guess he got that right.
No gun violence should be applauded. But when you have an administration and people like Kirk spreading hate and lies and macho rhetoric, what did they think would happen. All over the internet is his quote of how deaths are necessary to protect the 2nd amendment. Guess he was right. He’s now their martyr. And soon some other mouthpiece will take his place. White man supremacy was his stock in trade. Telling women college graduates they should use college to find a husband, have kids, and be submissive to their husbands. The fact he had a cable show on a “religious” network and hundreds of chapters of his rhetoric on campuses across the country is frightening. Imagine if the right got this upset every time a child was killed at school or in church.
My youngest daughter is an astrologer. She mentioned a very karmic-y direct aspect between the Sun and South Node today that probably interfaced with Kirk’s birth chart. If he knew that, he might not have made a public appearance for a while.
And in fact, we have civil-war level aspects happening, including the one that peaked today.
It is true that Charlie incited violence (or tried to) with his beliefs and his rhetoric.
Also true that political violence is super detrimental to our nation and that there are far too many guns for anyone to be truly safe.
I see MAGA is blaming violent radical leftists while waving their guns around.
May the Kirk family know peace and may this country survive. And may we all remain as safe as is possible in these trying times.
They’re always blaming radical leftists.
They did when Trump was shot at. I won’t say he was actually shot because I don’t believe it.
They said the same thing when there was an attempt on Trump at his golf course in Florida.
They said the same thing when those Minnesota legislators were assassinated.
They always say it.
Even if it was a registered Democrat, I suppose if they say it every single time odds are they will eventually be correct.
When it is a Republican shooter it is all about how these are mentally unbalanced nutjobs and we need more mental health.
If it should turn out to be a mentally unbalanced nutjob who is a registered Democrat or who voted for Biden, it will be all about the violent Left and no Democrat should be allowed to own a gun. And more.
Really tired of the double standard BS.
He was a very hateful guy, but the only thing I can see coming from his murder is more division. I already know people going more far right because of this. I also feel bad for his wife and children who were right there. I live about an hour and a half away from where it happened and things have been crazy. I really hope we don’t have dark times ahead, but I am worried.
Not in favor of killing anyone (and I’m sure you’re not either), but I’m grateful to have the information you provided. Horrible.
Thank you, Myra.
When I heard this on the car radio as I was driving to the grocery store my first thought was Karma.
After that, I never gave Charlie Kirk a second thought.
Ross, thank you for the quotes. I have avoided reading articles, but see the headlines. Honestly due to this, I had no idea who he was. My husband did and filled me in also.
It’s always “thoughts and prayers”. Well, there you go Charlie.
People like Charlie are a cancer on society. Hate me, like me, but it’s true. I’m sure there will be someone picking up where he left off.
At any rate, Thoughts and Prayers.
Oh, yeah…..good one Ross. “Charlie had it coming.” Wondering, now, what that little blonde girl on the train did to ‘deserve’ it. I DO know—-they were BOTH hate crimes!!!
Sherry, you wrote: “Charlie had it coming.”
The fact that the statement is in quotes implies that I wrote it. I did no such thing. Nor did I even imply such a thing.
And the “little blonde girl” has a name: Iryna Zarutska. Her killer has a long history of mental illness. His mother tried for years to get her son help….to no avail. This should not be surprising as America, beginning with Reagan, and ramped up by Republicans ever since, has gutted services to help people with mental illness.
You also wrote: “they were BOTH hate crimes!!!” There’s no evidence that the murder of Iryna Zarutska was a hate crime. And, as the killer of Kirk hasn’t been found, we can’t know his/her motive.
Sorry I used quotes. Your post ‘implied’ that Charlie had it coming. The guy on the train can be heard saying, “I got the white girl.”
Sherry, my post implied no such thing. I’ve debated you before and know that you have a distinctive way of interpreting things.
You also wrote: The guy on the train can be heard saying, “I got the white girl.”
This isn’t true:
The CCTV footage of the light-rail coach didn’t have any sound, so it’s impossible to know what the murderer said.
You titled this post “Karma?”
“You can tell a lot about a person by how they react when someone dies.” Charlie Kirk
Live by the sword…
He was a vile, putrid human, and I will not mourn him. I think the world is a slightly better place without him in it.
BUT –
I ALSO, not even for a minute, think that he was deserving of such a violent, public, traumatic death, or even of death at all. Political violence isn’t the answer. This is only going to drive a deeper wedge between the perceived “them vs us” thing that the nation is so hung up on.
I feel guilt for not feeling all that sad, but the smugness I feel far outweighs my guilt.
I (unfortunately) ran across the uncensored, close range video clip of the ordeal shortly after the story broke, and I have to admit that watching it humbled me and tempered my initial thoughts and emotions.
I don’t celebrate his death, but I do find a satisfying irony in it.
He died, technically, in a school shooting (though thankfully it wasn’t a MASS shooting event), and the last word that passed his lips was “violence”. The man lived and died by his beliefs, I’ll give him that.
I do worry a great deal about the further division that this is going to cause our already fractured society. I get the feeling that his death has created a dangerous power vacuum, and though mouthpieces of hate are a dime a dozen, we may come to find that he was the lesser of a yet-unknown evil. At least, that is what I am afraid of.
Now, piggybacking on the statement that AOC posted, will they continue to argue over rhetoric or actually DO SOMETHING about it?
THAT, is the question.
Tragic all around, really. Children lose a father while faceless crowds get a martyr. Everything a violent world has to offer.
Do people ever research? Every snippet that people claim he said hatred towards a group of people has been taken out of context. Go watch the ENTIRE exchange. We were taught in school to read all of the instructions before beginning the assignment. All the man ever did was teach people how to think critically and defend their position. He was not a racist, bigot, etc. Many minority bloggers have come to his defense against his detractors. Love him or hate him, he didn’t deserve death for speaking.
And it says volumes that after he was gunned down, there were prayers and candlelight vigils. No cities were burned, no riots, no burning police cars and government buildings. There is a difference between the tolerant left and the racist, bigoted right . /sarcasm
Karma indeed.
“He was not a racist, bigot, etc.”
Pat, seriously??????
And can you please name a city that was burned by people on the left?
You wrote:”he didn’t deserve death for speaking.”
There’s zero evidence that he was killed for speaking.
You also wrote: ” All the man ever did was teach people how to think critically and defend their position.”
Seriously?
BREAKING: Journalist and college professor Stacey Patton goes viral by penning a stunningly powerful statement about how she was on Charlie Kirk’s “digital hit list” and recounting the horror that he inflicted on her.
We cannot allow this tragic assassination to whitewash Kirk’s legacy.
“I am on Charlie Kirk’s hit list,” Patton wrote to her 215,000 followers on Facebook. “His so-called ‘Professor Watch list,’ run under the umbrella of Turning Point USA, is nothing more than a digital hit list for academics who dare to speak truth to power. I landed there in 2024 after writing commentary that inflamed the MAGA faithful. And once my name went up, the harassment machine roared to life.”
“For weeks my inbox and voicemail were deluged. Mostly white men spat venom through the phone: ‘bitch,’ ‘c*nt,’ ‘n****r.’ They threatened all manner of violence,” she continued.
“They overwhelmed the university’s PR lines and the president’s office with calls demanding that I be fired,” Patton wrote. “The flood was so relentless that the head of campus security reached out to offer me an escort, because they feared one of these keyboard soldiers might step out of his basement and come do me harm.”
“And I am not unique,” she added.
“Kirk’s Watchlist has terrorized legions of professors across this country. Women, Black faculty, queer scholars, basically anyone who challenged white supremacy, gun culture, or Christian nationalism suddenly found themselves targets of coordinated abuse,” Patton wrote.
“Some received death threats. Some had their jobs threatened. Some left academia entirely. Kirk sent the loud message to us: speak the truth and we will unleash the mob!” she continued.
“That is the culture of violence Charlie Kirk built. He normalized violence. He curated it, monetized it, and sicced it on anyone who dared to puncture his movement’s lies,” she wrote.
“And now, in the wake of his shooting, there’s all this national outpouring of mourning, moments of silence, yellow prayer hands, and tributes painting him as a civil debater,” Patton continued. “But the truth is that Kirk and his foot soldiers spent years terrorizing educators, trying to silence us with harassment and fear!”
“And now the same violence he unleashed on others has come full circle.”
“But what I find especially jarring is the dissonance in public mourning for a smug white man whose life work was actively hostile to certain groups,” she continued. “Kirk spent years demonizing LGBTQ people, mocking gun survivors, spewing racism about Black folks, and pushing policies that literally shorten lives.”
“It is so revolting to watch a bipartisan wave of grief sweep over this hateful racist as if he were a neutral community servant,” she concluded.
This is pure, unvarnished truth from Patton. Charlie Kirk did not deserve what happened to him, but nor did his victims deserve the hell that he unleashed on them. If Americans are going to build a more peaceful future for ourselves, we must condemn political violence while also condemning the hateful, bigoted rhetoric that made Kirk a multimillionaire.”
