Kenny Strikes Again!
Kenny found an incredible table. I purchased it, STAT. But I had no idea of where to place it. However, it seems to have found a home under Pete.
The table is rather astonishing. I think it is period-correct to the Cross House. Y’all know I am particular about this.

Sweet find. And doesn’t that rosette in the middle of the side match some in other pieces of furniture you have? Seems it’s familiar. Yes, I do love the grain of that vintage oak. You just can’t find that in modern furniture no matter how well made. That is a great spot for it too.

I love Quartersawn Oak! I don’t know what it is about it, but that and Mahogany are my favorites. Oh yeah, and Tigerstripe Maple, too!
Yes, that’s it. Quarter sawn. You don’t see that much any more. Probably too expensive to cut that way or they don’t have the large trees any more. Or the trees aren’t old enough.
I have a lot of early century veneer pieces where they booked them, quartered them or cut them in ways to make wonderful geometric designs with the grain going one way and then another. Different woods combined to make subtle color changes. I just love that stuff. I don’t see veneers with that sort of grain any more either.

That’s a lovely table. Love the curvaceous legs, and the screen design on the sides.
It’s bothering me that Pete is looking into the corner. Ideally, I think he should be facing into the room–much like, in graphic design, photos should generally be placed to show people looking “into” the page, rather than “off the page” of the newspaper or magazine. But knowing Ross, I’m sure there’s some artistic and/or political message that this placement is meant to portray!
See, I think from this angle that it looks like Pete is looking out into the hallway!
Or Ross could hang a fancy mirror on the other wall. Then Pete would be looking in the mirror, fixing his tie.

the table is a beauty for sure…. BUT THE FLOOR. OMG the FLOOR… that finish is just supreme. You would never guess that it is from 1894??? what stories it could tell about the life, lives and conversations of 130 years. THANK YOU ROSS for restoring this home!
That is a beautiful table. Especially being made of quarter sawn oak, the fact that the fretwork has survived not only intact but virtually untouched is nothing short of miraculous. That’s a terrific find, Kenny!!
