Making Coin

Wads of cash, baby!

The Cross House vacuums up money.

Every year.

For seven years now.

Massive amounts of money.

With no end in sight.

So, you might imagine my…particular thrill when the house spits up some cash.

With the Great Cleaning now almost complete, a lot of metal, aluminum, and copper was hauled off and transformed into $244. When Justin handed me the bills, my whole body quivered. My eyes glazed over in delicious delirium.

“Are you OK?” Justin asked.

I caressed the bills in my hand.

“I just need a moment.”

Good for you, but we still have $2 bills?

In that pile, Mark, is $100 in $2 bills!

Now you can put it toward all that new ductwork.

Or you can take the crew out to dinner at the new place across the street.

Yes we do. They are still legal tender. I have thirteen of them in my checkbook. The mint should make a lot more of them as with inflation we’ll be using twos more often than ones soon.

You know who’s on the two, right? (Jefferson)

There’s got gold in them hills…of recyclables.

Wow, you really made out like a bandit.

When I cleaned up a pile and took it to the scrapyard, I only got $16. Plus I couldn’t have it that day, I had to go back after 10 days to pick it up.

Now I just put stuff in the blue recycling bin.

Still hoping for a satchel filled with cash, coins or gold hidden in some wall somewhere.

FWIW, I recently found a 1907 Indian Head Cent in my house(built ca. 1900). I am tickled to pieces. It is in excellent shape, and still has the word “Liberty” on the Indian’s headress. Well, not worth a couple of hundred. Ross, you have me beat moneywise. But i’ll never spend my lucky Indian Head cent.

Well it’s about time the house has paid you back for lovingly restoring her,

Isn’t something like that such a pleasant feeling? Be good to yourself with it! 🙂

My dad always gave two dollar bills as tips.
I think many a waitress thought dad was giving them fake monopoly money!
And he gave those to his grandchildren too.

Glad you got a decent return on your scrap, Ross. When my husband makes a run with our scrap he always asks on his return,” Well, you want the fries or the hamburger?”

Wow. All those $2 bills! That’s so fun. I have a few squirreled away, just for kicks.

I wish we’d start doing $1 and $2 coins like Canada does. Much more practical to have these denominations as coins and not bills.
