The Cross House

Making the News!

The Cross House made the papers today! And the Gazette website! And their Facebook page!

The large image shows the house from a few months ago. The smaller image is from 1999 and was taken by Bob Rodak, who sold the house to me.  When Bob, and his late wife, Debbi, purchased the house it was boarded up and in terrifying condition, and I have always felt that Bob really saved the house. I shudder to think what might have happened had the Rodak’s not intervened.

The juxtaposition of the two images really shows that, no matter how bad a house looks, it can be brought back.

So, thanks, Bob, and thank you John Robinson of the Gazette!

  1. Congrat! Wonderful recognition to you and your beautiful lady! I am one of those “My day isn’t complete, until… people. Thanks so much for sharing every detail with us!

  2. Congratulations!

Speaking of appreciation, is it okay to send a holiday gift to the Cross House? I remember you wrote a while ago about not wanting packages on the front porch or something because… you weren’t around? It’s a bad neighborhood? I don’t remember exactly.

    • I do not yet use the Cross House as a mailing address.

This is my current mailing address:

      POB 454
      Strong City, KS 66869

I am excited about a holiday gift!!!!!!!

      • Okay, so it was supposed to be a surprise, but I got you a couple of bottles of wine and they can’t ship it to a PO box because someone over 21 has to sign. If you’d like, you can email [email protected] (referencing order #****) and give them an alternate address. If that’s too much trouble or anything, just let me know and I can cancel the order.

  3. Thanks for sharing. I am so proud of you. What a transformation. We need to see that every once in a while.

Thats my son, The House Doctor, do no harm.

Hope that encourages a bit of GoFunding.

  4. Many congratulations, Ross! As another avid reader of this blog, the scope of all you’ve taken on with this house and the carriage house constantly amazes me. It’s about time you were recognized for your efforts and dedication. (Just a thought, the person leaving the comment to the newspaper NEEDS to read this blog!)

  5. YES…the comment made no sense. I think the person was wondering why the house was not finished. They really need to check out your blog to see what it takes to restore such a large and neglected house. Considering you work full time and are doing most of the work yourself. They must watch too much HGTV.
