Mini Bling!

I’ve never offered anything like this before. 2-bulb ceiling mounts like this were wildly popular all during the 1920s and 1930s, and were often used in bedrooms. But, one with crystals? This I’ve not previously seen!

Yes, each socket ring has 14 crystal drops, creating a dazzling effect when lighted. Yep, wow.

The fixture is also distinctive in its being larger than most 2-bulb fixtures; it is 14-inches wide by 8-inches wide (12 x 6 being the standard). The height is 6-1/2-inches (minus bulbs). And…the outer edge has a remarkable texture to it. Original! Also original is the lovely finial and adjacent decorative ring. Fabulous! I love these small details.

Now this is like what would have been in the original bedroom of my house. The current bedroom was added on in 1947 but I’ve put in baseboard to try to match the rest of the house. Because of lack of insulation I have put ceiling fans in every room except the kitchen, bathroom, dining room and what would have been the original “home office” Mr. Bishop has that I use as a library. Technically it is a bedroom as it has a closet but it is off the living room so rather impractical as a bedroom. My bedroom, the guest bedroom and the living room all have ceiling fans. They circulate the ocean breezes in the summer and the heat in the winter.

I wouldn’t be surprised if something along these lines was in the original bedroom, although much of the house lacks ornament or high end anything. I have the original door knobs and hinges and they are nothing fancy. Unfortunately all of the original light fixtures were gone save one and that was broken before escrow closed so I couldn’t take it with me to protect from clumsy workmen.

I’ve love to put something like that back in but I need the ceiling fan and if I end up having to rent my house in the future, I would need to remove all of the vintage lighting to make sure future tenants didn’t remove and sell it. I would have to remove all of my garden art as well.

That is exquisite. To think all the crystals are still there. 🙂

So pretty, every room needs a little bling. (except the kitchen)
