My SQUEE Announcement!

.

Recently I posted the above image.

In the lower center can be seen a green bowl, sitting 8-feet above the ground, and adjacent to my cat fence, for squirrels and other small creatures to have some water during the recent DRY heat wave, and…this is vital…safe from my cats.

Tonight, I’m highly pleased to report that squirrels discovered the water bowl. They don’t…as I expected…drink while sitting atop the fence. Rather, they come down from the tree and drink upside-down clinging to the tree.

Ross happy.

In telling a friend about this, he replied: “Honey, many times I have had a drink upside-down clinging to a tree. Who hasn’t?”

I need to hang out with friends who drink like Spider Man! Or Squirrel Man. And now I’m contemplating where I can put a water bowl in my yard too.

Yay for happy squirrels! I’ve seen our resident squirrel sneak drinks from my ground-level birdbath, so I guess she’s okay. She loves the fruit and veggie scraps I also leave at ground level. There isn’t a good spot on the chain link and corugated steel fences in our SW ‘hood to feed or water her up high, though she does cling to a small high post to scold the dogs now and then. We’re not sure where she lives exactly but her territory encompasses a few yards.

I’ve got 7 water bowls in the yard for the two dogs to drink from wherever they are. They appreciate convenience. But whoa to any animal that ventures into the yard to do the same. They are very possessive of their space.

That said, with the watering of the plants and the garden I have see more butterflies and bees hovering around, I’m sure not just for a quick meal but also a drink from the drops clinging to everything.

After the fourth raised bed goes in the front I’ll be putting in my birth bath in the middle. It will have pebbles in the center so the butterflies and bees can drink safely.
