A Fence. A Bowl. A Solution?
Still hot, here. No rain.
This afternoon I was in my fenced cat yard and saw a squirrel atop the fence, laying flat, head down, and with its paws hanging down the sides of the 8-foot-high fence.
It looked dead.
Oh dear.
Then I noted it was just above the fish pond.
And I thought: Not dead but in a bad state due to the heat and drought.
It wasn’t likely to enter the yard due to the cats. It would know this.
But I had to do something.
My solution: a large green dog bowl on a shelf attached to the top of the fence, and filled with water. It may take a day or two for small creatures to figure out the new water source.

Once the critters find the water, you might consider putting a chunk of ice in it on really hot days.
Unless it’s a French critter.
You can save all of us with that attitude. We together can save us all . God Bless you
I recently read that posture for squirrels is called “splooting”! It is a way for them to cool down and having a water source will be a gift to them! Thank you for being such a kind human!
Thanks so much for your kind heart Ross.
I keep a birdbath, and I also keep a large plant saucer on the ground filled with water for the squirrels, bunnies and chipmunks.
Hugs!
That’s very handsome tree shading your sploot bar.
And because my mind works in odd ways and google enables such things, I have now learned that there’s more than one vet in the US who named their clinic Sploot.
