Newels Obsession

This set of newel posts are in a local antique shop. I have zero need of them but nonetheless cannot stop obsessing over them. I have never seen newel posts like these. I want to buy them, restore them, and just sit them in a room like art pieces. And, of course, I would have to give each one a name.

Larry, Moe, and Curly Joe?
Felt the same about a pair of gray (well faded blue) velvet chairs I saw yesterday. Still might go back and buy them. But I’m resisting. Once I have a space in the living room I’ll go back. They’ll either be there or they won’t.
Give it a day or two. If you’ve slept on it and still have that itch and urge, you know you’re not going to be happy until they are in the house. And eventually you will find a use for them in some way. Even if it is only to dress them as lawn geese.
They are very cool Ross.
And great shot too, with the tools and old photo.
Waiting to see if they show up in Cross House.
Three sentinels. If only they could speak…
I can see why. They are wonderful
Hug them and kiss them and call them George.
If they do find their way into RossWorld, they would certainly be well cared for and justly adored. 💜 Maybe each could claim a room of it’s own or, be moved throughout the house periodically to inspire. Whether grouped or alone, they definitely invite contemplation. They honor exciting, stylistic transitions which … seems quite at home in your lovely 128 year old home. 🌻
I see abstract faces in the carving on the sides of the posts. Names are totally appropriate.
Larry, his brother Darryl, and his other brother Darryl.
Amazing 🙂
They are beautiful, I love a substantial newel post. They would be lovely in any room as architectural art. Go for it, or in this case them. I also like the frame and picture to the right of them.
Oh what a beautiful set.
They look similar to a set in the “Melly” house of Laine and Kevin Berry on YouTube Our Restoration Nation. The house is in Monticello Arkansas.
How much do they want for them?
$150 for the tall one, $125 each for the shorter ones.
They’re very cool. I can see them hanging out in one of your rooms, looking well cared for and happy.
For some strange reason, the names “Winkin, Blinkin, and Nod” came to mind. I think that they would make great conversation pieces, whether together as a group or individually throughout the house.
It would be great if you created a page with your best restoration tips. I would love to know your strategies for restoring the woodwork, and the alligatoring, etc.
It would be much appreciated and help others who would like to save something in an old house.
